Arteta made Arsenal look pretty good when he took over last season. They were playing some very good football, recorded wins vs lots of quality teams and won things in the process. But it looks like a bump, when you see what is happening now (just as was the case with Ole). Unlike Ole however, his man management is very questionable when you see how he's completely alienated players like Ozil, or Guendouzi who is flourishing this season in Berlin. He clearly has favorites he continues to play despite them clearly being shyte. Don't know if he can turn it around now but it wouldn't be a surprise if he lost a part of the dressing room already. He's definitely in a fix right now and his saving grace is that the Kroenkes, just like the Glazers with Ole, might not be in a hurry to get rid of him and therefore will give him every chance to save himself (he's cheaper than a top quality manager and he's obviously a 'yes man' who is more pliable as well).
Will take some doing to catch/dethrone Pool but if nothing else, it feels great to even just be in the mix right now. And if we can start the coming year in good position, then who knows what can happen? Particularly in this crazy season: we shall see but we must keep that momentum going in our upcoming league games...
Also needs an * - could be 2nd and 2 points with the game in hand, though very tight at the top. In the mix is good considering our competitors are the finished article or invested significantly where we didnt really. Strange when we have one of our worst home records to start the season in decades. Is a very effed up season and table for sure.
what? Significant investment. You guys have spent over a billion since fergie retired, you can’t equate bad investments with non investment
Totally missing the point - was in relation to this summer. Sure, money has been spent in years past but mostly badly - so mostly on players no longer here or ones who might as well not be. However another argument for another day. Not getting the CB that Ole wanted in the summer (Upa reportedly) for example means our two CBs are in the top 10 for most minutes played. IMO our squad depth in some key positions will come back to haunt us. Other opinions are available Harry Maguire has played the most minutes out of outfield players in 2020. Bruno Fernandes the fourth most, Victor Lindelöf the seventh most #mulive [cies] pic.twitter.com/XFdRBmg3x4— utdreport (@utdreport) December 21, 2020
At some point we may need to drag Pbil Jones or Rojo out just to give Ice and Slab a rest. Maybe we give Matic time there along with Mengi
Crocs Bailly and Axel ahead of crocs Jones and Rojo for me - at least they can play to a reasonable level when not broken
Could be practical in terms of scheduling and spacing games out for the teams that make it all the way. Further in the season, there is potentially the matter of European football, the Cup on top of league games to deal with. But still ought to be more manageable than February, which tends to be a pretty busy period as it is.
Of course, it's another Manchester derby for the Carabao semis. Hard on paper but City are not who they were either (at least for now). And as things stand, we have a decent chance: bring'em on! Perfectly teed up for a matchup vs Spurs and Mourinho in the final too...
2—Everton (29 pts)3—Leicester (28 pts)4—Man Utd (27 pts)5—Man City (26 pts)6—Aston Villa (25 pts)7—Chelsea (25 pts)8—Tottenham (25 pts)9—Southampton (25 pts)Only four points separate 2nd and 9th in the Premier League 👀 pic.twitter.com/8PDbZlR7yh— B/R Football (@brfootball) December 26, 2020 That is as tight as it gets. Vital, more than ever, to achieve and maintain some type of consistency/put a winning run together in the coming games. Need to keep that momentum going now.
People are talking about title challenge. I'm just taking it game by game. I won't call it s title race until the CL restarts. If were still in it by February, id feel good.
Agree. We are a little inconsistent and not just with results. Pool obviously is a favorite but I also put leicester ahead of us at this time and not cause the are ahead of us in the table.
We’re 2nd in the league form table for last 6 and last 10 games. Leicester are 6th and 7th. We’re 2 pts behind Leicester with 2 games in hand. I just think we pay so much attention to our own club that we see inconsistencies within a consistent run of good form, while other teams can genuinely be patchy and we’ll gloss over it. The media coverage is a big part of that too of course.
Our attack undeniably is our strong point, one we must press as much as possible. Until we can somehow fix our defense at least. #mufc have won the most points (24) and scored the second-most goals (25) in the Premier League since losing to Tottenham in October #mulive [amazon]— utdreport (@utdreport) December 29, 2020
We are in the title race whether people want to admit it or not. Now it is on Ole and the players to make it count. All the teams are flawed. Even Liverpool, with their missing talisman and their stale front line. They have already dropped as many points as they did last season. If we buckle, we buckle, but that is what it would be.
Official: #mufc will play their game in hand against Burnley on January 12 at 20:15 GMT #mulive— utdreport (@utdreport) December 31, 2020
Must take care of business vs Burnley to set up a mouth watering clash at Anfield. Will still be early but if we can take anything from that game, we definitely could have Pool sweating us. Must keep that focus and momentum going now.
Starting this year the right way with our win a pesky Villa team, now is time to kick on. The rest of the slate for this month. Jan 6 vs City (h) EFL Jan 9 vs Watford (h) FA Jan 12 vs Burnley (a) PL Jan 17 vs Pool (a) PL Jan 20 vs Fulham (a) PL Jan 27 vs Sheffield (h) PL Jan 30 vs Arsenal (a) PL All in all, a pretty manageable set of games. I want the team to do well in all competitions and definitely would like to win a trophy this season. Having said that, I really hope Ole takes the opportunity with the next 2 cup games to rest some of our key guys (especially those who have logged heavy mins like Maguire and Bruno). It's a must actually: we've got some quality guys in the squad who have been chomping at the bit. Give them a chance to play their part. As far as our league games are concerned, the minimum return I expect this month is 13pts. It's ambitious (yet doable) but if we have any real/legitimate designs towards challenging for the title, that is simply what it's going to take. I like the mentality shift we've seen from the guys this season: last season, we often failed to capitalize on opportunities which presented themselves to us and that appears to change. Also touched on it yesterday in the Villa thread but we need Pogba to keep performing the way he has as of late. We pretty much know what we'll get from Bruno and that he'll do everything he can, but if he has Pogs performing well by his side, there's no telling how far we can go...
