UEL R16 - who do we want? or not want? remaining teams: Rangers (SCO) Wolves (ENG) Basel (SUI) Roma (ITA) Bayer Leverkusen (GER) Lask (AUT) Wolfsburg (GER) Copenhagen (DEN) Manchester United (ENG) Getafe (ESP) Sevilla (ESP) Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR) Inter Milan (ITA) Istanbul Basaksehir (TUR) Olympiakos (GRE)
A very manageable draw obviously. We've got the return game at home which is never a bad thing. They currently are top of the Austrian Bundesliga though, so there's that. Should be respected, but definitely not feared.
Called it!! Now granted I have no idea who they are.... Not getting carried away but I have some confidence we can navigate this successfully. Wouldn't have said that few weeks ago
3️⃣ Reds are up for our Player of the Month award in February 👏Who gets your vote? 📲#MUFC— Manchester United (@ManUtd) February 28, 2020 Not taking anything away from the 3 nominees, as they've all are deserving (even Shaw), but Fred should be there as well. Already paying the price for his consistency? Joking there but he's shown supreme form since the end of November. Possibly in the driver seat for United Player of the Year as far as I'm concerned, if he can keep this up. Putting that aside, there is a clear winner and it has to be Bruno. The effect he's had on the team since his arrival speaks for itself.
Some info on our upcoming EL opponent, LASK. https://www.90min.com/posts/6566514...man-utd-s-europa-league-round-of-16-opponents
Since his return to the first xi he's been superb. No question a big part of why we've kept our streak of clean sheets.
Saw on reddit, that in the 8 game weeks that Chelsea have dropped points since November, we have failed to win in every one of those week. Zero killer instinct.
It brings to mind last season's end, when the teams vying for 4th, us included, lost time after time.
Man Utd looking to enhance behind-the-scenes operation & close gap on likes Liverpool + Man City with raft of appointments in area of data. Working to bring in team of 8 led by head of analytics to improve recruitment, medical, academy @TheAthleticUK #MUFC https://t.co/4yvJITDquz— David Ornstein (@David_Ornstein) March 2, 2020 It's a start, I suppose, as those are all areas that clearly need improving. But in terms of recruiting/transfer business for instance, that can't be all there is, nor can there be an over reliance on that type of approach. Pool tried the 'Moneyball' approach a few years back during the Rodgers years (with their transfer committee) and it certainly was not a great success when you consider some of the players they bought during that time. As a tool, within a more complete and comprehensive system, that is fine but more is needed still. Namely a qualified (and empowered) director or head of football at the club.
https://www.reddit.com/r/reddevils/...se_the_gap/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x This seems off. From 30th November to now, we've gained the 3rd most points in the league - 25 - which is 6 more than Chelsea who would be in 14th. On 29th November, we were 9th in the league, while Chelsea were still 4th on 26 to our 17. We've climbed from 9th to 5th, from 9 points behind to 3. That graphic implies we'd have only gained 1 point on Chelsea since the end of November, but we've cut the lead by 6.
I didn’t run down the figures to confirm but we had drawn a lot of games the same week where Chelsea had lost so that was where we gained points. But the emphasis was that we failed to win games any of those weeks.
Yesterday, mate. Don't forget, it's a special day when I get something wrong AND Ashur gets something right after 6 months of predicting it.
Howson has a good talk with Ornstein that dropped today. Ornstein is well connected and knows his stuff and he discusses a lot of the changes to our recruitment strategy and a lot of the issues we’ve had the past few years in that department.
Looking closely at our league slate for this month and it surely will be pivotal in terms of our pursuit for 4th spot and a CL berth for next season. City at home, Spurs away and Sheffield at home will not be easy (despite the fact we've done well vs quality oppo this season). And would imagine that if we can secure 6-7pts minimum from those games, we could look solid going into the run in. Our struggles against lower tier oppo are well documented, but I think that Bruno's arrival (on top of Pogs's return) will be a big help when it comes to dealing with those teams. Have to make sure we come out of this month on the right side of things though, starting this weekend in the derby.
