    Roma [R]

Post all Roma-related news and comments here! If this thread grows significantly before the start of next season, MAYBE I can justify re-creating the Roma board ...

    I'll start:

Good chance of Ze Maria arriving from Perugia to replace Cafu. The holdup on Legrottaglie has been Chievo wanting youngster Daniele De Rossi as part of the deal. But Roma don't want to give him up. However, more cash might make Chievo happy.

Any Roma fans heard anything about Saliou Lassissi lately? Promising defender from the Ivory Coast, played with Samp, Parma and Fiorentina. From what I saw, not quite the finished product, but a big, strong defender--definitely something you could have used this season with Zebina and the old Brazilians around. Of course, he broke his leg preseason, but the latest I heard is that you've been ignoring him...shame...

That is terrible if it's true that they aren't paying him. I remember when he got hurt in the pre-season. A nasty nasty injury.

i'm new & wanted to let roma fans know that the reason this board might be so slow is that there is another roma english language board that i know of that has a large following & gets loads of traffic.....
i post there but came to bigsoccer to keep up with news from the other teams in serie a & beyond. :)

If Roma can sign Fernando Morientes from Real, than they will be a huge contender. They have improved the defence brought in a good midfielder and with the addition of Morientes they have some good strikers. The question is will they live up to the talent?

PS - I hated how they treated Batistuta

Transfers TO Roma? That would be good news. I saw them begin their descent from the European stage with the Champions League loss at Liverpool two seasons ago. They were still impressive then, very deserving of support, certainly more than racist Lazio. They soon dropped off the Scudetto lead and then sold some of their greatest players. And Totti too?

Totti is going nowhere, Roma should make a good run at the Scudetto this year and I expect them to qualify for next years champions league. If Montella can find the form he was in 2 or 3 seasons ago and Cassano can get his act together I don't see a real need for another forward (and with the financial problems it doesn't look like they're going to get anyone). Now if only Roma could get their finances together and make money next season that would be great.

Totti is going nowhere! He's the kind of player you build around. I think Roma has a real good chance this year, hopefully if they can keep the controversy to a minimum. I'm pulling for Montella this season. I'd also like to see Cassano grow up and become a contender. And as far as Batigol is concerned, professional sports are heartless: when you're past your prime, you're gone. Still, I liked him and he was a significant reason why they won the scuddeto.

By the by, the most under-rated, hard-working player for the giallorossi is Tommasi. I love that guy! He's the kind of midfielder that covers the field, keeps his head up and drives a team. But he's a quiet guy and not enough is made of him.

    Roma-Betis Friendly (R)

Betis travelled to Rome to play Roma in a friendly and came home with a tie 2-2. Assuncao scored one of his classic goals on a DK on his return to Roma where he played until Betis picked him up last year. Pellizolli could only watch as the rocket went over the Italian wall and into the back of the net!! Both teams played without some of their key players.

Saludos y viva er beti manque lopera!

Here is the review from a Spanish Sports Daily.

2 - AS Roma: Pellizolli; Panucci, Chivu, Zebina, Samuel; Lima, Emerson, De Rossi; Totti (Mancini, m.37), Cassano y Montella.

2 - Real Betis: Contreras (Prats, m.46), Varela, Juanito, Lembo (Belenguer, m.63), Mingo; Assuncao (Melli, m.87), Arzu (Benjamn, m.81); Joaqun, Capi (Ito, m.46), Ismael (Maldonado, m.78); Fernando (Luis Fernndez, m.63).

    Goles.
    0-1: M.12, Assuncao, de falta.
    0-2: M.34, Capi.
    1-2: m.91+ Emerson.
    2-2: m.92+: Cassano, de penalti.

Arbitro: Cudiccini (ITA). Mostr tarjeta amarilla De Rossi (m.48) y Assuncao (m.59)

An interview with Totti came out a week or two ago where he compared Cassano to a "little brother" and talked about how they bickered a bit as brothers do, but now have smoothed things over. He even said that Cassano goes out to eat with his (Totti's) Dad more than Totti does.

What are the odds that this relationship has cemented and Totti, the elder and experienced veteran, will be able to

    a) calm Cassano down a tad and bring out the best in him as a player; and;

    b) Cassano will respond and link up with Totti in a manner that might rejuvenate Roma?
