3 years before winning the 1939 copa america peru had a great shot at picking up an olimpic medal in the berlin olimpic led by lolo fernandez we absolutley destroyed finland in the first round 7-3, lolo scored 5 in the second round(quarter finals) we beat austria 4-2, the game finished 2-2 in extratime we scored twice this is where the controversy begins, "During extra-time, Peruvian fans ran onto the field and attacked an Austrian player. In the chaos, Peru scored twice and won, 4-2. Or so the South Americans thought. Austria protested and the International Olympic Committee ordered a replay without any spectators. Peru refused and their entire Olympic squad left in protest as did Colombia." http://www.fifa.com/en/comp/olympicsmen/0,2482,114-OLY-1936,00.html austria went on to play in the final losing to the italians if the bloody fans didnt interfere we could have walked away with a medal then again...whos to say these fans where peruvian? it was 1936 and a certain person in power was originally from austria

That's two different statements from two very "believable" websites. FIFA.com says that peruvian fans in germany went to attack an austrian fan, and then out of the chaos, Peru scored two and beat Austria 4-2. the rssf website says that Peru had already scored those two goals. It was already 4-2 and the peruvian fans in germany went to celebrate the 4th goal by Villanueva onto the field. So who to believe? I think both of these stories are crooked and not very believable. I know this story very well from my grandpa and he says that it wasn't peruvian fans that went on to celebrate. It was just the Peru bench that went on to celebrate to the pitch well after the ref had called the end of the game. So the game was already over and it wasn't peruvian fans from the stands. Adolf Hitler just couldn't face the fact that a "superior and white" squad could've been beaten by a "brown and inferior" side. He was in the stands at that game too. To see his team and his country defeated by a bunch of little peruvians was hard. He couldn't take it, so he ordered the game to be replayed. The peruvian delegation wasn't gonna accept that since they knew that it was gonan be harder and Austria was gonna get the upper hand from the ref in any calls and controversy. Boy, Adolf's mustache must've gotten on fire when Austria lost. I'll believe my grandpa on this one.
yeah I remember this story , also that a movie was made about it (can't remember the name) starring Pele, and Stallone
I've read in other books a few years back ... and chatting about it with my dad ... Austria protested the game with the excuse the pitch was smaller than the regular size. Because of it ... they demanded a replay, which Peru oppossed and in protest retired from the tournie. .
i dont think that movie was based on the peru vs austria match i wonder if that austrian team was the famous austrian wunderteam?
So the game continue continued while this alleged attack was taking place?? Doesn't any make sense. I say we beat them and they cried about it so we left. Man, Lolo and Villanueva together must have put on a show.
yeah, the movie Victory was just about a team in WWII. It has nothing to do with Peru. Is there video of the Berlin Olympics and Peru's games?
colo colo was it? can you imagine a blank check at that time period? It was a very big deal. Lolo always loyal to la "U".
They don't know who to consider their maximo idolo. Personally, I'd go with Cubillas or Cueto but whatever.
Or Waldir? He was our hero in 93 and 97 when we won the league title after 156941651000 years. Him, Jayo, and Soto will always be remembered as the caudillos.
I never said I prefered him over Cubillas. Cubillas has been both Alianza and Peru's best all-time player. But no one can deny what Wally did for Alianza in the 90's.
which was what exactly? nah just kidding he did peform for them, and is their all time goal scorer, even do most alianza fans hate his guts now. One thing against hism..is that in his prime, when he was tearing up defences across peru he was truly crap for the national team but from what i hear the all time idolo is betewn villanueva and cubillas
Of course it has to be between them. PS: Why don't you guys open a thread for the "maximo idolo aliancista" ... and stop thread jacking this one? .
well technically villanueva was part of the 1936 team so its kinda on topic and anyway its my topic and ill do what i want with it
