Nice to see Herc finally rejoin an American side after months of speculation! Oh wait..................
would love for TJ to hang onto riascos too...and possibly for castillo to stay? so many yanks, so little time!
Xolos are everything Chivas USA said they'd be but aren't. A) Good; B) Full of Mexican-Americans; C) Entertaining; D) Well-marketed; E) With a good youth system with a lot of good local players. There were rumors Chivas USA wanted to sign Herc. Why would he ever go there when he could play for Los Xolos? He can live in San Diego (where he once played minor league ball - I bet that'll be written about a lot in the next few days), make more money, play on a better team and play in international competitions. And when the USNT has camps in SoCal, he can drive to them.
For those of us who don't follow the league, what does this mean for him? More cash? Prestige? Is he their de facto striker?
He wasn't a starter in Santos last season and Tijuana is probably going to sell their striker, the move is mostly to attract the american market.
He started most of the games he played, so yeah, he was a starter. The move is to get a good player to fill a void.
he only started this season after Santos sold Ludueña and Suarez, last season he was mostly used for the CCL and as a substitute for Peralta, also his numbers in the league aren't impressive enough to consider him a good replacement for Riascos, like I said they only want him because he is mexican-american, the identity they want.
Oh yeah, that's definitely the ONLY reason... Herc is a quality player bro. There are certainly some marketing aspects of it, and he won't be as good as Riascos, but to word it like this is a publicity stunt is nonsense. He's good enough to be there.
Yeah, they probably don't want the 35 goals he has scored in 83 games in Mexico. Just the Mexican-American angle.
This plan for them get more American support for the club, could it work? Could Gomez and the other US nationals on the team generate that kinda interest, finance and success?
Eh. We'll see. They've been talking up the Xolos like crazy here in SD for a couple years now. US interest has definitely increased but not by that much. Crossing the border is just such a goddamn hassle.
I know that americans hype him because of the CCL but that is not impressive at all, Riascos has better numbers by far in Tijuana than Herc in Santos, maybe if he could score like when he was at Puebla but he hasn't in a while
Riascos has 20 goals in 59 games for Tijuana. I'm not seeing how that's far better, let alone, better at all.
35 in 83 matches is pretty damn good. I believe he was playing on he wing a bunch and at some of the clubs he was on the bench a lot. any idea how much he's earning? Less than a million but more than 500 K?
Herc isn't as good, but Herc has been very effective coming off the bench in his career. If TJ gets another striker, Herc gives them a lot of good options.
