If anyone watched tonights NY Rangers game on MSG, they had a photo of a young Sam Rosen during the 3rd period doing a NY Cosmos game. On the road in Philly it looks like. Over at the Vet. He was there the year after Pele retired and he has a NY Cosmos NASL Soccer Bowl Ring. So it looks like we have another Soccer Fan in our midst at MSG Network. Plus I use to work with him when I interned at MSG Network, so I can tell you he is a genuine Nice Guy.
Sure: I remember him doing the games, but I think it was mostly on radio. Howard David (ex Jets broadcaster) I believe also did some games. It must have been a good way for new guys to break in to the sports broadcasting business. =NLK=
In case you were wondering, the guy who works the deli counter at Stop & Shop in Lyndhurst is also a soccer fan. He said he liked my USA Jersey.
Whether Sam Rosen likes soccer or not, I believe that if he were to spend a reasonable amount of time preparing, he would be far and away the best play-by-play TV announcer that the US media could offer. With Sam, we'd hear the game and not just rambling ************************ while the ball is played anywhere but inside the penalty area, which is all Ty, Jack Edwards and Tommy Smythe ever gave us.
Sam Rosen kicks ass. How would I go about setting up an interview with him for my school paper and class project?
I got on my knees and begged, and they gave me John Gianone instead. Anyone got a bio on this guy? Is he soccer friendly?
