Today was the best few minutes of football I've seen Landon play for some time.... Lets hope he keeps it up April 12th and beyond. His goal was class...making two defenders look stupid, a look up that dummys another towards McBride to give him space, before bending the ball beautifully past the Keeper.. Now we have something to look forward to this season -Richard
I agree with that part; it did look like Landon had confidence coming off the bench today. He's still young and needs more maturing, especially at the international stage (and he'd be the first to tell you that). It did look like his best match since the World Cup. What will be interesting is seeing how he will develop as the National Team leader in the next few years. I wish him all the best.
He looked much more comfortable without the burden of organizing the attack or setting up the plays. He just showed off his creative and did wonderful things with Beasley on the left flank. It was a beautiful sight to behold. I hope this is the Donovan that we get to see in 2003.
Which is what I and many of us have been saying till we're blue in the face...THE KID NEEDS TO BE UP FRONT!! -Richard
And...HE NEEDS TO BE MORE SELFISH! His vision is so good he is always seeing opportunities to distribute the ball. (And too often, his target can't do a thing with it.) He has got to accept that as he goes, so will go the Quakes.
I agree with this completely. He needs to realize that in the MLS, and particularly the Quakes this year, his half-chance is better than any other option 90% of the time. He should just take those chances. In the Ven game, Ty had it right when he said LD should have taken the ball himself instead of passing it 5 yds ahead to Beasley who was in an offside position. Even if Beasley were onside, he had only one defender to beat, and he had his speed up. He would have gone in one v one on the keeper.
In Donovan's comments regarding the game, he mentions that he thinks he should have scored two or three more times. So I'm thinking he's aware that he needs to keep it more and go for it; it's just that old habits die hard. He's so used to giving those perfect passes to teammates, it will take him some games to establish this selfish mentality that he needs.
Why statistics are sometimes worthless That was the easiest assist JOB will ever get in his life. Tony
