Beat me to it! I was putting my team together, but 20 minutes ago the site went down for maintenance! I'm gonna get you sucka! Mods, could we sticky the thread and change the name to "Official Fantasy Thread", or something along those lines?
MLS Fantasy League Join a Bay Area fantasy division: Title: Bay Area league Password: 1shaw1 Please join! The fantasy webpage can be accessed from mlsnet.com
Or you could join this one: Division- fans of the earthquakes Password- clubquake Or we could merge the two. Whatever
I cant join for some reason. I clicked on where it says join a user created division and typed in fans of the earthquakes and it says there is no division by that name. Anyone know what Im doing wrong?
I feel like the Quakes......i have salary cap issues. Where's the "Cut Donovan and bring Barrett, Cannon and Graz back" feature?
Okay this is my first time using the Fantasy League so if I am way off base here let me know. As I understand it, you gain points when players on your team accomplish the "Goals" in each of the detailed screens (For Example when Landon scores 2 goals in the 1st game I will get 150pts. . I also know that I have to have 11 players by the Freeze Date/Time to qualify for that date. So other than issue of having to pay for trades, what stops me from doing the following and amassing more points than someone who keeps a constant or fairly constant roster ever could. Opening game: 4/5 I make sure to have all the players on my team from Columbus (the winning team for the 1st game ) who I think are going to play. And then on the 6th or 7th I switch to Quake Players who will be on the field for their 1st game on the 12th. Now I know I could run into Salary Cap issues but since I will effectively be able to increase my game playing count considerably with this tactic I doubt it would matter. (Of course contiuing with dates like April 13th, May 14th, May 25th, June 8th, June 11th, June 18th, June 25th, July 2nd, July 4th, July 9th...and so on) I think this might sound like cheating but I can't find anything in the rules against it. And I can't see how someone not using this method could win (Simply as the number of Team "games" would be about 50-60% higher than without it). Please tell me I am wrong and the above method will backfire. Randy Overbeck- Team Name QuakeShakers (I am running as a candidate for ClubQuake Secretary).
I know what you mean. And I didnt realize how bad our defense is going to suck this year until I had to pick my defensive players Not good at all.
Paying for trades and cap issues are very valid reasons for not doing this. You score points for different categories. If you drop Donovan after a good game to pick up Spencer, you may not be able to get Donovan back because of his increased value. It's not worth the risk, sooner or later(probably sooner) you'll get burned. I am last seasons champ.....I know of what i speak, if there was a way to skirt the rules, i would have done it.
So what did you win last year? Is that a challenge if I field a 2nd team that attempts to use this method? Randy Overbeck (I am running for ClubQuake secretary)
Funny thing was, I got an e-mail telling me i was gonna get a prize, but never did. I personally dont care if you enter a second team but I don't wanna speak for others.
So I did the calculations and there are 45 dates one would need to make roster changes to fully utilize this system. According to the site every team gets 25 free trades (defined as a sale of a player). Additional trades are $1 or each or as low as 11 for $8. So the cost to do this for the entire season. 1 Player utilizing this method 45 trades needed - 25 free, 20 pay for, Cost about $16. 3 Players utilizing this method 135 trades needed - 25 free, 110 to pay for, Cost about $80 8 Players utlizing this method. 360 trades needed - 25 free, 335 to pay for, Cost about $244 11 Players utlizing this method. 495 trades needed - 25 free, 470 to pay for, Cost about $344 ---- How much is the 1st Place Prize again?? >Grand Prize > > A Trip To MLS Cup 2003 - Opportunity to distribute >championship t-shirts on field! (It looks like one might need to win the grand prize just to break even. Randy Overbeck (Candidate for ClubQuake Secretary)
I made a team in a different league. I bought Ekelund but not Landon Donovan because he's too expensive and creepy.
Guys: My name is Erik Barmack, and I'm the GM of TSN's Games Division, and the issue you're raising is why we put a PURCHASE CAP on the trades you can buy. You can only get an additional 75 trades, which means you CAN'T cycles players -- you'll have to be strategic about when you're subbing players. So the best you'll be able to do is cycle in 3-4 players/week. Also, I thought I'd spur a bit of debate by posting my roster -- people on other team threads have done so, and it's led to interesting conversations. So, here goes: S Kreis, Jason DAL TBD 0 1800 67 $344,000 Eskandarian, Alecko DC TBD 0 0 0 $132,000 M Ekelund, Ronnie SJ TBD 0 1300 48 $249,000 Vaca, Joselito DAL TBD 0 915 37 $231,000 Beasley, DaMarcus CHI TBD 0 760 40 $231,000 Martino, Kyle CLB TBD 0 640 29 $191,000 Mapp, Justin CHI TBD 0 25 8 $100,000 D Ivanov, Galin DC TBD 0 0 0 $119,000 Petke, Mike DC TBD 0 595 22 $113,000 Kante, Daouda NE TBD 0 340 43 $100,000 K Hartman, Kevin LA TBD 0 990 55 $189,000 If you have any questions about the game, feel free to email me (ebarmack@sportingnews.com). -ESB
As the reigning champ......i laugh at your roster . The absence of the very inexpensive Dayak and Robinson on defense is an indication that you need to stick to creating games and not playing them. I like the Vaca and Beasley pick....344k for Kreis is a joke and that made you purchase Alecko.....who is a hope and a prayer. Lose Kries for a slightly cheaper fwd and then pick up the bargain fwd in the game.....John Spencer. I've said too much, I am only making my victory more difficult by giving away this valuable info.
Thanks for the response! The only thing I would recommend is to add a note to either the rules or the Purchase Trades page that ennumerates this limit. Oh and when will the player lists be updated with the supplement draftees and other players that have been recently acquired by clubs? I sent a note on the response page but never heard anything back. Thanks again!
