For giving us Simic, Seedorf, and Pirlo. From www.ACMilan.com It appears Milan have had the better of the swap deals so far. Seedorf has been brilliant in his role this year and Simic has been solid at the right back position. Coco doesn't appear to be having a great season for Inter and I don't know what happened to Umit Davala. And Pirlo has been fabulous since he has been given a starting spot last season. I think Moratti is kicking himself for selling him now. Besides a left winger Inter really needs some creativity in the center of the field desperately.
It's still early, my friend. Seedorf's problem was one of consistency. Sure he had flashes of brilliance, but he would dissapear for large stretches of matches. Right now he's hot, but lets see if it holds up. I'd still take Coco over Simic anyday. As for Pirlo, I guess we just weren't patient enough with him, oh well, that's how it goes. Long season, let revisit this at the winter break.
I still can't believe the risks Milan (Ancelotti) is taking by having Pirlo play in sort of a "defensive" midfield position. Sure, things are going well right now, but his lack of even the slightest hint of tackling ability ("ole!") got exposed a couple of times against Bayern, once which led directly to their goal. But I guess, if you can score more goals than you risk, that's still fine. It's just such a wierd mentality for an Italian team to have! But I digress - this is the Inter board, after all. Just noting, I guess, that nobody - Inter, Reggina, Vicenza .... - ever even considered playing Pirlo in this role before.
he played a very similar role at Brescia, where Baggio occupied the spot on the pitch traditionally reserved to Pirlo. credit Mazzone for being the "genius"
... and everybody thought it was Baggio! I forgot about his time at Brescia. How often did they play together on the field? I always thought that was a problem for them, but maybe that was the press. Probably, their problem was more that they didn't have Nesta on defense.
