MLS's signature in 2010 World Cup. First of all we have 4 MLS players on the USMNT roster, plus ex players. 3 ex MLS coaches at least in the first round. 3 ex MLS players on NZ team. 4 Players from MLS [including] ex players on Honduras team One ex Fire player Blanco from Mexico. I am proud of OUR little league [I mean Major League]. Did I miss anyone else?... Oh Beckham on the bench for 3 lions as a spy.. Future Players, Henry , the guy from Swiss team and many others.
Re: MLS's signature in 2010 World Cup. Tony Parker got the cat out of bag sort of, I will see my Friend Henry Playing in RBA soon.I consider that very much a done deal. Links: Q&A with Tony Parker Slam
Re: MLS's signature in 2010 World Cup. That's still second, maybe third hand at best. I'd wait until I hear words coming from Henry himself or at very least MLS or NYRB press releases.
Re: MLS's signature in 2010 World Cup. I can tell you this much, Wesley Sneijder is not MLS bound anytime soon. I rather RB went after him though. Not sure how many butts in the seat power he might have, but that's a great player.
Re: MLS's signature in 2010 World Cup. It is interesting that the biggest story of the World Cup thus far is a guy from MLS.
Re: MLS's signature in 2010 World Cup. The smartest thing the league could do, would be to start a massive ad campaign with all of this information ... slow images of guys like Howard/Altidore/Donovan going from their MLS club to the USMNT, then a collage of the international guys, then a little spot on the coaches .... a couple of highlights from the cup involving those guys (there's two pretty big ones *cough* at the moment) .... and then "the world's sport, your league, Major League Soccer" ...... seriously, this can't be that hard to see
Thank the MLS for the rise of USA and Landon Donovan The Guardian I am shocked that message somehow got lost about the MLS, the league where Landon Dovoan makes his living and it's a pretty good living at that. This is all happened because of MLS. Now what MLS needs to do is take this bull by the horn and run with it.
Truth is MLS brought about more than just Landon. Without MLS there would be no recognition for: Holden Howard Dempsey Beasley Bocanegra Gomez Bornstein Clark Buddle Altidore Findley All of whom have played many seasons in MLS before moving on or simply staying in the league. The biggest name of the bunch, the one that has not really ever left, is Donovan and he is considered the best American player (possibly ever). HOME GROWN LANDON DONOVAN, like a fine wine from Napa Valley or a Cali green stash of CHRONIC!
Exactly why anyone who follows the USA (as a true soccer fan and not just an American who supports them durring World Cup time) should be supporting MLS. If you want us to win the Cup we need MLS to keep improving and pumping out more and more future Nats.
I hope I got this right, but my understanding is ZERO of the MNT players went to college. But a large majority of the players started their careers in MLS. We all know MLS gets a lot of players by drafting college kids, but money MLS clubs are putting into developmental academies bodes very well for the national team. Currently in MLS: Landon Donovan, Los Angeles Galaxy Edson Buddle, Los Angeles Galaxy Robbie Findley, Real Salt Lake Jonathan Bornstein, Chivas USA Started/Early caree in MLS: Jozy Altidore, Villareal (Spain) Herculez Gomez, Pachuca (Mexico) DaMarcus Beasley, Rangers (Scotland) Michael Bradley, Moenchengladbach (Germany) Ricardo Clark, Frankfurt (Germany) Clint Dempsey, Fulham (England) Maurice Edu, Rangers (Scotland) Stuart Holden, Bolton (England) Carlos Bocanegra, Rennes (France) (captain) Clarence Goodson, IK Start (Norway) Brad Guzan, Aston Villa (England) Marcus Hahnemann, Wolverhampton (England) Tim Howard, Everton (England) Have not played in MLS: Benny Feilhaber, Aarhus (Denmark) Jose Torres, Pachuca (Mexico) Steve Cherundolo, Hannover (Germany) Jay DeMerit, Watford (England) Oguchi Onyewu, AC Milan (Italy) Jonathan Spector, West Ham (England)
You mean, besides these guys?: Edson Buddle, Los Angeles Galaxy State Fair Community College Robbie Findley, Real Salt Lake Oregon Jonathan Bornstein, Chivas USA UCLA Ricardo Clark, Frankfurt Furman Clint Dempsey, Fulham Furman Maurice Edu, Rangers Maryland Stuart Holden, Bolton Clemson Carlos Bocanegra, Rennes UCLA Clarence Goodson, IK Start Maryland Brad Guzan, Aston Villa South Carolina Marcus Hahnemann, Wolverhampton Seattle Pacific Benny Feilhaber, Aarhus UCLA Steve Cherundolo, Hannover U. of Portland Jay DeMerit, Watford U.I.C. Oguchi Onyewu, AC Milan Clemson
Is it possible that none of them graduated/played 4 years? So they went to college but left early for the pros?
Years of college play Edson Buddle, Los Angeles Galaxy State Fair Community College, 1 year of college soccer Robbie Findley, Real Salt Lake Oregon, 4 years Jonathan Bornstein, Chivas USA UCLA, 4 years Ricardo Clark, Frankfurt Furman, 2 years Clint Dempsey, Fulham Furman, 3 years Maurice Edu, Rangers Maryland, 4 years Stuart Holden, Bolton Clemson, 2 years Carlos Bocanegra, Rennes UCLA, 3 years Clarence Goodson, IK Start Maryland, 3 years Brad Guzan, Aston Villa South Carolina, 2 years Marcus Hahnemann, Wolverhampton Seattle Pacific, 4 years Benny Feilhaber, Aarhus UCLA , 2 years Steve Cherundolo, Hannover U. of Portland, 2 years Jay DeMerit, Watford U.I.C., 3 years Oguchi Onyewu, AC Milan Clemson, 2 years
Robbie Findley went to Oregon State University. Same place that the Ryan Johnson, Bryan Jordan, Alan Gordon, and the #1 pick of the 2010 MLS draft came from. The Ducks (University of Oregon) don't even have a D1 program.
and with the reserve league on the horizon, mls and the nats should be on the rise for years to come as young americans are properly groomed for the big time.
Not sure if the USA's showing will directly improve MLS attendances but it does change the face of American soccer in the eyes the world.
