A frustrated Rapids go to Canada and take out their aggressions! Too early for "must win" games still? Does that even matter anymore? Does the new guy get some PT?
The only time the Rapids have done anything but lose in Toronto was in MLS Cup 2010. Toronto and Seattle are the only two places where we've lost all our games against the home team.
"Must Win" games, outside of those where a specific result is required otherwise the team is eliminated from the play-offs (for example) are in the eye of the beholder. So in the strict use of the word, this is not a must win game. Having said that, it's hard to think of a worse game to lose in the regular season, not a true must win, game. A month ago, the Rapids were actually in a position to challenge for 3rd place in the west, point wise, would be in the top third. Now, the team has lost 6 of 7, the last loss, at home, to one of the worst teams in MLS and this game against the worst team in MLS. No, it's not a must win game, but damn, seem like one.
As much as I would like to see the new guy, I don't think we will. There hasn't been much time for him to practice with the team, so therefore I think Pareja will be hesitant to put him in. I bet he makes the bench though. What I really want to see is Pareja to try something new. Especially in midfield. He has tinkered with formation quite a bit, but there has been a constant of Mullan, Rivero, Castrillon, and Larentowicz in some form in the middle and things just aren't working. The obvious target to me is Castrillon, but I wonder if maybe Rivero also gets a "rest" in order to see how things would work with Smith running things. I also would love to see a return of Hill, but unfortunately I see him trying something like starting Edu and Casey up top together before he puts Hill back in. #PlayKamaniHill
Chris Bianchi is saying that Shane O'Neill is "the" backup to Larentowicz at this point. If that is the case, did he still travel with the Academy team? I want him to get game time, but also feel that if he is becoming that important he should be with the first team. (Blast the stupid 10 games only reserve league)
Rapids said O'Neil was heading to U-18 Tourney/ finals what ever it is called. However, given their performance who knows where he is until we see game line-ups.
I love this refrain, it's tagline material for me. Sadly, they are becoming rather consistent in this, so I think it will be in a way all too familiar. Plus we never win in Toronto, as pointed out, except when it counts. Think about Toronto's history: it's statistically impressive that we've never even managed a tie. Edu only needs one more goal to pass Diz on the all-time Rapids scoring list.
Folks, any game at home or against a "lower/ worse" team is a must win. It has nothing to do with playoff elimination, standings, etc.
No one called it yet? Ok. 2-1 Rapids victory. Goals by....dunno, don't care; and I won't take a stab at the starting XI.
Have we ever beaten Toronto in Toronto? Prediction 1-1 tie. That may be difficult result but I'm optimistic. This team is in a death spiral.
To-do list: 1. Start Hill in lieu of Castrillon (a guy can dream right?) 2. Defend as taught at age 12. 3. Have more goals than the other team at the end of the game. 4. Do not compound the shame and embarrassment by having our 6th loss in 7 games be to the worst team in the league. (a Canadian team to boot) Simple right?
Can we play a game against ourselves? We keep being the perfect tonic for other teams when they are on a bad run...
1-1 draw. goal by Casey. Honestly even with our struggles in Toronto this should be an easy win, but the team has played so horribly lately I can't imagine doing better than a draw, and even that seems optimistic. http://view-from-the-couch.blogspot.com/2012/07/our-greatest-triumph.html
We drew Ismail Elfath as center ref. I don't know anything about how he calls matches. Larentowicz still sits one YC from being penned. Castrillon and Rivero are two YCs away. Our latest newbie, Wahl, also comes in two YCs from being penned. Let me help out our announcers with the keys to the match: + Finish + Clear the ball + Communicate The first three game losing streak (RSL, Seattle, LA Gals) ended with a 4-0 thrashing of Chivas. The second three game losing streak (KC in the Cup match and Vancouver and SJ in MLS matches) ended with a 3-0 thrashing of Portland. Let me call this one 2-0 Rapids.
I think I'll be watching this one from the Red Zone. I also think I'll start the evening with a glass of wine, rather then waiting. As they say with narcotics after surgery, you need stay ahead of the pain, not chase it. I'll be at the table with a Nun's Beach cap if anyone wants to say hey.
a must win imo. we need to beat this team. if we lose our morale will be so low. if we seriously lose this game i'm no longer a fan. i'm sick of of seeing medicore. trade wynne trade moor trade pickens jl casey omar. do something drastic if we lose to show this team that if you dont perform or improve in a month your gone.
I don't mean to pile on, but the Rapids won the Cup in '10 and did make the playoffs last year. This "mediocre" is pretty recent, and you're already sick of the team?
