Well it's a day after Montreal unceremoniuosly dumped TFC out of the CONCACAF CL. But after reading this from FOX Sports: I can't help but wonder.. where's the outrage over bottles and debris (maybe even a battery or banana) being trown at players from the stands? Where are all of the people calling for TFC to play a game in an empty stadium, as they were after Columbus' black eye against New England?
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] Hypocrisy sucks doesn't it? But you still care what MLSR thinks.
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] Where's the outrage? Probably in polite-but-firmly-worded letters to Don Garber.
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] I heard it was visiting West Ham fans that threw all the bottles and booed in Toronto....they were practicing for Thursday's All Star game.
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] canadia and i respectfully admired bill archer's blog on the new canadian expansion bandwagon popping up in the great white north
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] Or it could be that no other media outlet has reported anything like that and so the question is open as to whether it actually occurred or the Fox guy thinks he saw something he didn't.
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] Columbus fans want anything to get the microscope off of them right now. Just remember, you guys would get beat down quick up there. Stupid Ohio State fans.
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] I'm gonna make a guess that "hail of bottles and debris from the stands" consisted of 2 bottles and a cup. Wait that sounds like a movie
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] Yep, all Columbus fans are racists looking for a fight. Just like all Crew fans are Ohio State fans...Go Hoosiers! Someone in another thread mentioned that Jamie Trecker wrote the article and were half joking that they couldn't trust it. I wonder how many media outlets were actually covering the game, as it was part of the Nutrilite Canadian Champions League, and not a regular season MLS game.
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] Jamie Trecker is a lot more reliable than MLSR. Just sayin'. (And I, for one, have seen items thrown at MLS games in Toronto on DirectKick.) And the "150 person brawl" in Columbus consisted of a couple of drunk Americans wearing West Ham kits attempting to live out their sick Green Street fantasies.
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] FOX Sports Bottles? Maybe the odd, empty crushed dasani bottle being tossed in the air. Or perhaps a crushed empty cup thrown up in exasperation. Debri? Old streamers maybe? I was at the game celebrating, I neither saw nor got hit by any of these "missiles." That talk seems a bit sensational.
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] For the record, the Hudson Street Hooligans founded themselves out of a sick, Green Street fantasy.
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] If HSH actually intended on re-living Green Street, they've been waiting an awful long time doing it. By most accounts, they're a pretty peaceful bunch. There's a difference between using a (controversial) movie as inspiration for a group name and actually wishing to recreate the same atmosphere. For most of the 9.5 years of Crew Stadium's existence, there existed a group (with huge banner and everything) called "107 Hooligans". They were about as far from a bunch of aggro-filled yobs as you can get. No one said "boo" about it for years.
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] Choosing to use the word "hooligan" was unfortunate, but I've never seen mass thuggery out of those kids. It seems to me that they are mostly a bunch of college aged kids who like beer and football. I was there once (still like the beer and football, but college was a long time ago for me). (Addendum: it seems silly to have to point this out, but in common American usage "hooligan" doesn't have quite the same connotation that it does in England. "Youthful rowdiness" is what qualifies as "hooliganism" here. But I suspect people like to "forget" that fact in order to "score points.")
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] Nah, they're too busy working on their next Crew-related feature.
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] Stuff like this gets overlooked when your stadium is actually full. There was at least 2 beers thrown at the Impact when they scored; tons of random junk (confetti tube things, general garbage) thrown at Jordan during the second half and lots of stuff thrown at Braz while he was writhing in pain and walking off the pitch. The best though was the mickey someone threw at Jordan. It didnt hit him but it landed right in front of him on the line of the six yard box. Were allowed to throw things because were not racist and also because were awful. We would have thrown stuff at our boys if they ever got close enough.
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] And when there's no YouTube video of it. Fans threw lots of water bottles at players when Morelia played Chicago in CONCACAF in 2002 or 2003 (I have video of it somewhere). It happens. That's different from actual violence in the stands.
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] Well, if that doesn't definitively show the TFC class we've all come to expect, I don't know WHAT does...
Re: Where's The Outrage??? [TFC-MTL R] Impossible. I won't believe it.Toronto has the best supporters in the league. Toronto has the best supporters in the league.
