well here's the rumour. Swedish int'l Olof Melberg http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/69/t...yet-report-toronto-fc-in-talks-to-sign-sweden
we should be trying to take advantage of the young DP rule. Of course that would mean actually scouting south america, and we all know that the FO has no interest in doing that. If we need an ancient CB we could've signed Nesta for less than a DP contract
How could we have signed Nesta for less than a DP contract when Montreal swooped in and used personal connections and a DP contract to lure him? You know what? We're a bunch of idiots. We should sign Messi to a non-DP contact while we're at it.
i think we should look into stealin lucas moura from the crosshairs of ferg while were at it and take a run at a non-DP first team spot for gotze. sounds great shore up that midfield for sure
Montreal didn't sign him to a DP contract. They also didn't use special connections to get him. He was trying to get into MLS for a while before he finally signed with Montreal. He was being offered around, but Mariner and Cochrane weren't interested.
I'm thinkin get Neymar and Ganso pair for a couple hundred thousand, then pickup hummels and papadopoulos for a bag of practice balls, sign em to kocic money and we might make mid table. Edit. but I guess I could settle for messi he's is alright
Completely untrue. He was at our 3-0 win over Montréal as a guest of TFC. After the game he went out with Corradi, Di Vaio, and others and they all told him he should come to Montréal.
I think Barcelona need a washing machine. Now, that may make us the smelly kids of MLS, but I think they would take it for Messi. We should get on this ASAP.
hmm, the reports that I read said that TFC never actually made him an offer because Mariner and Cochrane didn't want him
http://www.canadiansoccernews.com/content.php?3416-Nesta-to-Montreal-Good-or-puzzling That's Saputo meddling with the player personnel decisions based on a knee jerk reaction.
http://www.canadiansoccernews.com/content.php?3414 You can read some interesting discussion on this here: http://redpatchboys.ca/forums/showthread.php?32165-Update-Nesta-Expected-to-sign-with-TFC-signs-for-Montreal-instead/page8&p=1506357 and: http://www.canadiansoccernews.com/content.php?3416-Nesta-to-Montreal-Good-or-puzzling The last article suggests that TFC had the upper hand but took too long, and eventually Montreal took advantage and signed him
again, 34 is not that old for a CB. CBs play longer than anyone. he'd be a huge upgrade but is he worth the DP slot? i couldn't tell you. i like the idea of signing a non-DP younger player who's excelled in Championship or Bundesliga 2, save the DP slot for an ideal situation or until Koev is sorted out because you might want to be looking for an elite attacker instead.
I don't like his age either, but he looked really solid during the Euros. At least I've seen he can still play at a decent level. And if he comes as a non-DP sounds good, so long as there isn't a Plata-like crazy transfer fee that only Cockbrain knows about
Here is an update on Carvalho of Real Madrid. The link is in Portuguese but when translated you get the picture. He's on the outside looking in and has been excused from training to look elsewhere. He still has 1 year left on his deal. Wouldn't it be sweet if they could convince Madrid to loan him out and foot most of the bill so that he wouldn't be a DP. http://abola.pt/nnh/ver.aspx?id=342369
