Alright Everyone, We are going to have a Texian Army Bowling Night this Saturday, March 10 starting at 4:00 pm. It will be at Del Mar Lanes at 3020 Mangum, Houston, TX 77092. Its basically off of 290 just a little outside 610. The cost is $45 per LANE for two hours. This includes shoes and all the games we can play during that time. Each lane can hold 6 people. So if we get 6 people the cost will be $45/6 per person. If we get 7 people it will be $90/2 per person. If we get 12 it will $90/12 and so on and so forth. So it should range somewhere between $7.50 - $12.85 per person depending on how many people show up. That is a hell of a deal for two hours of bowling. The $45 charge also includes a free pitcher of a soft drink. So for those that don't want to drink beer or whatever then you're set. And yes, there is beer and liquor served at the bowling alley. This is basically just a chance for us to get together and have fun doing something non soccer related. If there is anyone that is new to Texian Army then this is a great chance to meet some of the Board of Directors and other members of the Texian Army and have a great time as well. Please respond if you are going to go. I don't want to hear any crap about you not going because you can't play well. The whole point of bowling is not to get a high score. It is to see how bad you can get while drinking lots of beer Plus with my broken finger, I'll be playing left handed, so don't worry about having the lowest score. I got that one wrapped up. So let's get a roll call going. Whose going to join the rest of their brothers and sisters in a relaxing afternoon of knocking white pins down with a black ball. AYE! (PLEASE ALSO RESPOND IN THE FORUMS ON THE TEXIAN ARMY WEBSITE IF YOU CAN) Post in Texian Army Forum And watch out because I can totally see Nobius pulling this . . . Nobius Doesn't Play Fair See you in the North End
If Katy goes, I have to. She always has a really bad score when I'm there, and I don't want her looking good at bowling We'll see about this. I think I can. I get off work at.....like...2 or 3. We'll see. Go ahead and count me in, but I might be a tad late.
between here and the TA forum, looks like so far: definite: Marquez newtex Nobius JumpforDynamo zolafan naranjableeder Dre00 galaxykat El Naranja La Madre de El Naranja Dynamel Anderson maybe: Numero Dos (I understand the Vicodin they give you after dental work really helps one's bowling skill, BTW) Anyone else?
The wife and I (and two kids and a mom-in-law). One of the guys from work might be stopping by around 4-ish, as well. Be sure to ask him about his three balls. It's a little early to call right now (7:30 AM), but do you know what what their bumper bowling policy is? My 3-year-old would have a blast... (Their number is 713-682-2506, I found on the web.)
Btw, that location is very close to the Delmar sports complex that Adrian Garcia and others have mentioned as a potential site for the new Dynamo stadium, so it's also a good opportunity to check out the area if you're not familiar with it.
Just spoke with some guy there. He said 3-5:00 is his busy time, but 3 lanes appear to have been reserved (I don't know under whose name), and he added a fourth in case we need the bumpers installed. Seemed pretty flexible about it...
Had fun this afternoon. I believe my son bowls better than I do - at least, it seemed he was knocking more pins over than I was. We need to go back, on a Sunday - $10 off the $45 price. Maybe next time, I will get to bowl a seriouxs game or three.
Had a great time winning the most improved award thanks to my horrific first game and tripling-that-score second game.
If I remember right, we were on lanes 16, 17 and 18. Here's the results on each lane - Lane 16 Marquez - 148, 141, 150 - 439 series, 146 avg. Dre00 - 196, 165, 160 - 521 series, 174 avg. Anderson - 132, 97, 123 - 352 series, 117 avg. galaxykat - 82, 82, 82 - 246 series, 82 avg. Melissa - 104, 78, 58 - 240 series, 80 avg. Lane 17 Numero Dos - 108, 115, 162 - 385 series, 128 avg. Angela - 60, 78, 64 - 202 series, 67 avg. El Naranja - 72, 62, 57 - 191 series, 64 avg. Kenia - 83, 82, 61 - 226 series, 75 avg. Nobius - 45, 154, [had to leave] - 100 avg. naranjableeder - [missed first game], 70, 54 - 62 avg. Lane 18 zolafan - 133, 141, 139 - 413 series, 138 avg. newtex - 86, 133, 114 - 333 series, 111 avg. JumpforDynamo - 139, 139, 141 - 419 series, 140 avg. metroag - 120, 107, 136 - 363 series, 121 avg. El Naranja's mom - 69, 87, 120 - 276 series, 92 avg. High series - Dre00 - 521, Marquez - 439, JumpforDynamo 419 High game - Dre00 - 196, Numero Dos - 162, Nobius - 154 Some observations - 1. Dre00 and Marquez' performances did not fall off that much with their increasing drunkenness. 2. Katy sure is consistent. 3. I'm not quite sure what that was Kyle was doing, but I don't think it was bowling. 4. Amazing improvement by Nobius, once he got his GPS unit correctly aligned. 5. Your humble correspondent did stomp a mudhole in Andy, but fell prey to Marcel offering up his ball to the bowling gods before each of his shots.
What? No single table!?!!?1!11!!? This bowling activity will never catch on until we have single table results like The Rest of the World. This results by lane thing is just a concession to the American bowling fan who's accustomed to following everything lane by lane. But in The Rest of the World, they know that single table is the most exciting way to bowl where every frame is meaningful!!1!11!! JumpforDynamo definitely wins the Jogo Bonito Award for the best form. Marquez merits some extra credit for bowling with an injury...so he claimed. This was a great idea. Thanks for setting it all up.
anderson, that is geting to bee to much!!!!1!!!!!11 I swear, my eyeballs hurt after reading his stuff!!!!!!111!!1
Actually, I wasn't even trying to make fun of our friend - just the single table obsessives - but the "!!!!!111!!1" has become an automatic here.
