All of the news stations are orgasming over the fact that Homeland Security is bumping up the terror alert to HIGH from ELEVATED. It's due to a spike in chatter but isn't specific about any targets. They are fearing an attack towards the end of next week because it corresponds to an end of a Muslim holy period.

The last two times the terror alert went up to HIGH nothing happened.

When did it ever go up to high (is this the dreaded "orange") before? I thought it had always been yellow.

Okay, guess it did happen once around the last July 4th holiday. But that was the only time.

Hmmmm... conflicting reports then because the CNN article I read said it was around July 4th.

    must be a corporate conspiracy.

bert is right, and CNN is wrong! :D I went right to the Homeland Security Website. It was around the 9/11 anniversary.

That information is available on a "need to know" basis. Jeebus, you're worse than the weapons inspectors.

I caught a glimpse of a CNN interview with David Stern while eating lunch. They're tightening security around the NBA all-star game. My guess is this comes from confusion over the bomb that Mariah Carey is going to drop when she serenades Michael Jordan at halftime.

    Once.

And, no, nothing happened here. But if something had, and no warnings were put out, you can be damn sure that plenty of people would have been up in arms about having received no warning.

    my thoughts exactly.

it's one of those things where they can't win. because even if they stop someone people will say "oh well that's coincidental"

I'd hate to make a snarky remark and end up disappearing in a mushroom cloud ten minutes later, but the administration has played politics with terror alerts before, and will continue to do so.

Boy cries wolf, has a few laughs, I forget how it ends....
