And of course the lefties keep on embarassing themselves:

"I really am not sure exactly what the legislation said," but explained that she sent out the e-mail because, "I think probably the majority of our supporters feel that there should not be government intrusion, that the court should be the ones handling this issue, as it has, and so that's why I did it."

Forgive my intellectual limitations (after all I am from Texas), but isn't the Judicial Branch a part of the government?

We have judges all over the country making up their own laws, yet the Legislative Branch (the branch elected by the people) cannot do that?

I do wish they would quit saying that the government should stay out of it.

I'm also intellectually limited (and I can't blame it on Texas), but I faintly recall learning many years ago that the government consists of three branches. Apparently the MSM doesn't regard the judiciary as one of them.

I suggest anyone who asks "What is love?" read Bill's account of his aunt and uncle's heroism.

Could the MSM polls been manipulated? Nahhh.

    http://www.zogby.com/Soundbites/ReadClips.dbm?ID=11131

Polls leading up to the death of Terri Schiavo made it appear Americans had formed a consensus in favor of ending her life. However, a new Zogby poll with fairer questions shows the nation clearly supporting Terri and her parents and wanting to protect the lives of other disabled patients.

..."If a disabled person is not terminally ill, not in a coma, and not being kept alive on life support, and they have no written directive, should or should they not be denied food and water," the poll asked.

A whopping 79 percent said the patient should not have food and water taken away while just 9 percent said yes.

I was wondering why everyone I knew wanted her to be kept alive. Clearly we hang with different folks, CrewSchmack.

I know this is Archer's forum, so I should be respectful, but . . .

. . you have got to be friggin' kidding me. This "disabled" person could be anyone from Schiavo to someone with a missing leg or who is deaf in one ear. In no way, shape, or form is this a "fairer" question than any of those asked by ABC, CBS, or even FOX News!!!

"If a person can trap the ball, dribble the ball, shoot from outside the box, and track back to defend, should he or she be permitted or not permitted to join the Brazilian National Team?"

What a surprise response from someone who compares Burger King's breakfast sandwich to selling porn to kids.

So you think the ABC and CBS poll questions were more fair?

My point in that thread was that, while I agree that people should have the "choice" to eat whatever they want, I am offended that Burger King and Hardee's both decided to start selling 750 and 1000+ calorie sandwiches, respectively, when obesity is becoming a serious, serious health crisis. I should find you the NY Times article that notes that diabetes (often linked to obesity, as you surely know) has doubled in incidence in the past decade and now accounts (at least in part) for 1 out of every 7 dollars spent on health care.

My point was that choice is a right, not a virtue, and that selling a 1000-calorie sandwich exploits the worst instincts in people.

Your fair poll question leaves out the most important details of the case. Even if you believe that Schaivo wasn't in a persistent vegetative state, you should be able to see that calling her "disabled, not terminally ill, not in a coma, and not on life support" grossly misrepresents her condition (furthermore, feeding tubes are generally considered part of life support, but that's a different debate).

Again, it's like asking whether someone with terrific dribbling skills, a great shot, a high goals-per-game average, and a willingness to track back should be permitted to join the Brazilian National team . . . without mentioning that this person is a woman from Myanmar.

The CBS question was "WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN TO TERRI SCHIAVO NOW?" You didn't mention the FOX poll, though, which had similar results.

I'm going to pull a "superdave" and yank a single line out of a long and well-thought-out post to quibble with.

In my case though, unlike him, I'm not going to pretend that by so doing I have shattered forever any claim you have to intelligent perspective and rendered your entire post moot and/or idiotic.

    Caveats aside, then:

I couldn't agree more with you here: something being a choice does not make it virtuous.

I am reminded of this fact every time someone on the left spends ten minutes calling the USA the world's leading den of evil, violence, oppression, war and p[estilence and is responsible for every wicked and unfair thing done anywhere in the world and hoping that American boys are slaughtered in Iraq until the streets there run red with their blood and oh by the way I'M the one around here who's the REAL PATRIOT because I am exercising free speech, thus proving how much I love my country.

This is the most bizarre, warped piece of logic I can imagine this side of the lockdown end of the Insane Asylum. "Because I exercise my right to hate my country, this proves that I love my country more than you do."

Any doubts I had about the polling were erased the day I heard Pat Caddell, who was George McGovern and Jimmy Carter's chief pollster, and a died-in-the-wool Liberal, on TV absolutely condemning the polling questions that were being circulated regarding Teri Schiavo. He called them variously "dishonest" "outrageous" "professionally insulting to decent pollsters" and "about as biased a phrasing as I could possibly construct"

Every single one of them started out pretty much the same: "Terri Schiavo is in a permanent vegetative state and has no hope of recovery. Her brain is the consistancy of luke warm chicken noodle soup and she has the intelligence of a potted plant. Based on this do you think we should A) Nominate her to run for President as a Democrat B) Use millions of taxpayer dollars to keep her alive like some sick science fair project or C) Get it over with"

I can certainly take you more seriously when you present yourself more like the above post. Going-off for the shock value does nothing but cause me to write-off your comments. I mean we can link almost anything together. Kind of like the Kevin Bacon game. BK is not in the business of selling health food. We should all know that, just like cigarettes are addictive. Do we protest all the ice cream shops in the nation because it can cause obesity? I tend to choose my battles more wisely. (sorry Bill, a little off topic).

In regard to the latest Zogby poll, my point was that following polls are not exactly how we should make or even justify our beliefs. Here we have a totally different result because of wording. We all know that they swing from one side to the other. Still there are those that try to bolster their beliefs or statements based on "the lastest poll". Personally, I could care less what any of the polls said about Schiavo. They do not change my feelings on the case.

BTW, do you drink achololic beverages? (seriously)

I tried to find the exact questions on some of the polls and didn't have much luck. It appeared that the ABC poll was pretty biased but the CBS poll wasn't. I'm guessing, however, that the FOX questions were sympathetic to the Schindlers, being that FOX referred to the issue as "Terri's fight for life," "Terri's battle," etc., and even FOX's poll still reported that most people favored removing the tube.
Like you, I could care less what the poll results are as far as my own beliefs go, even though I favored removing the tube.

Every now and then, but it's been years since I've gotten drunk. (I think I drank enough while living in Prague to last a lifetime. Interesting trivia: Czechs drink the most beer per capita in the world.) I do enjoy a beer, glass of wine, or belt of scotch or cognac every now and then.

There's something about getting older than makes drinking to excess very unenjoyable.

    Why do you ask?

I can understand why the Czechs drink so much beer. I envision that a great past-time there would be just to sit at a cafe drinking beer watching the girls bounce past.

You couldn't get me to leave.

That combination of incredibly good beer and incredibly beautiful women makes Prague one of the greatest cities on earth. I have never, ever seen such a high percentage of beautiful women anywhere in the world.

I actually have not had a drink in about 2 years and I can't really remember the last time I got drunk (not that I was so drunk I couldn't remember). As I get older I also find it not enjoyable. Plus, I feel that drunkeness is wrong and can lead to disaster.

Not to harp too much on this breakfast sandwich issue, because I think you have good intentions on everyone eating healthy and you also believe in having a choice, but I would like for you to help me understand how you can be so offended about BK's 1000 calorie sandwich and then sound like drinking alcohol is ok. I mean we all know the destructiveness of alcohol physically, emotionally and socially on those that cannot drink in moderation. Isn't it worse than those that cannot eat in moderation? To me it's worse because drinking can have an effect on others such as drinking and driving and abusive behavior towards loved ones. Does that not bother you as much?

I mean if you want to eat yourself to death then that's your decision, just don't try to blame others because of your own actions.

WRT the Enormous Omlette Sammich and the Hardee's Monster Thickburger (is that what it's called?) the Burger King marketing guy that the target market for these monstrosities is male 16-24 (from a Trib article now archived). What these guys are after is a big, filling sandwich that is cheap. Guys that age (especially if they're active) can really eat a lot of calories. Of course, when your metabolism changes at 25 you need to adjust your caloric intake and maintain your activity level accordingly, which many do not do.

I don't care what people sell, but it must be made easier for folks who go into these restauraunts to understand their caloric intake. It's one of the reasons I don't eat at those places anymore, since I track calories, fat, etc.

As far as a health problem, if you look around you can pretty much see that many people are eating themselves into bad health. I'm torn on the issue because I see the benefits of doing something to help the youth, but at the same time, I don't want to infringe on someone's right to eat poorly if they choose to.

Well, alcoholism is obviously a serious problem for a lot of people, and there are few things that I consider more selfish and horrible than drinking and driving. Clearly, that's a lot worse than eating a Monster Thickburger. I think it's okay to hate both drunk driving and Hardee's.

It surprised me to learn this, but obesity is actually considered by some to now be the worst avoidable health crisis in the country. (Problem is that it's much harder to quantify than, say, smoking or alcoholism--with those, the links are a lot less ambiguous.) If 30% of the population had serious drinking problems, I would be equally offended if Coors introduced a 140-proof drink that tasted like Kool-Aide and was marketed at the 16-24-year-old market.

I'm sure this is true, but even fast metabolisms have limit. There's not shortage of overweight people in this age group, and the most disturbing fact from this crisis is the number of children who are obese.
