You beat me to it. No more undefeateds, bay-bee!!! As much as I enjoy seeing the Terps win, watching Duke lose makes it even sweeter.
I wonder if I can hijack this thread and turn it into the Duke is an overrated piece of crap thread. Barely beating North Carolina, and losing to Maryland, this is not a top 8 Duke Team. Sorry. Has anyone looked at their horrible schedule. Army, Davidson, N. CArolina a and T, Dayton, Fairfield, Clemson etc. There only tough games to date has to be Maryland and Wake. One and one. Not to mention they play all of their games at home. Why not go on the road Dukies? What really ticked me off is that Vitale and Musberger, when they called the game, never criticized Coach K for his schedule. Because we all know that he is above that. How about scheduling a tough non-conference road game so that your team can actually be prepared for conference play, Coach K? If the ACC had any depth, they would be exposed for the frauds that they are. Oh well, if the make the Sweet 16 they are lucky, they won't make the great eight though. There two road games, at Clemson and at North Carolina A and T. Wonder why they couldn't handle the turtle. Who played Florida, at Indiana and Notre dAme. It really is tough to figure out. Maryland will win this conference hands down.
Huh? I hope your time machine is faulty since I'm hoping for an upset on Feb 5. Good game, Terps. Now, if you don't mind, please clear the path for Messrs McCants and Felton on Wednesday. Thanks.
I am thinking that I must have seen the score of the Duke women's team v. the UNC women's team this weekend and gotten them confused. My fault. I have to say I am rooting for UNC though.
That's all you had to say. Seriously though, the Terps are for real and Carolina will have to really get it together to win at College Park, and they haven't looked good on the road, save the NIT in New York.
Fine Dayton is a good squad. I am just getting sick of Dickie V's and the entire college basketball commentators putting their noses so far up Coach K's rear that they don't ever criticize the guy any more. With regards to the ACC, I probably root for Maryland the most. Then whomever plays Duke. I am not a fan of any other ACC school though.
Even I, as a Duke fan, don't believe they have a better squad than they've produced in the past 3-4 years. However, even though Maryland played one hell of a game, they haven't played Duke at Cameron Indoor, which is one of the greatest challenges for any team. As for North Carolina, I believe they have one of the worst coaches in the ACC IMO. Doherty has all the talent in the world, yet they play so inconsistently, losing to teams like Iona or Virginia, then beating UConn. Last year they had enough talent to give a decent run for the tournament, yet they didn't even make the NIT. I want UNC to be able to give Duke a good game this year and restore the rivalry. However, saying all of that, I can't wait for Feb.5(UNC), and Feb. 19(Maryland).
I've said a lot of nasty things about Coach D'oh but I have to defend him here. Last year, there was NO talent on that team. You had Melvin Scott, Brian Morrison and Adam Boone, none of whom is really a point guard, handling the ball. You had Jeff Capel who was not a leader and was completely unmotivated. The only big man of any value was Kris Lang, who essentially peaked his freshman season. Basically, last year was the season when Bill Gutheridge's incompetence as a recruiter came to haunt Carolina. This year, you expect the Baby Heels to be inconsistent. You have a freshman running point in Felton, another freshman, McCants is the go to guy and Jawad Williams, a sophomore, is growing into the leadership role. And even before Sean May went down with injury, we were ultra thin inside. I don't like to make excuses because it is a talented squad, but I'm not surprised that we're inconsistent. We'll get into the NCAAs as a bubble team on the virtue of wins vs Kansas and UConn, but we'll be lucky to make Sweet 16. Next year though, will be a completely different story. I felt the same way when Duke was going through a rough patch. It's just more fun when both teams are good.
Parity my friend. Parity. UNC won at Kansas, at UConn, and at home against Stanford...and they're one game out of the conference basement. That said, the SEC and Big 12 can certainly raise their hands as better than the ACC this season. Not so fast, Big 10...you can put your hand down. Props to both the Terps and Dook for a great game tonight. Truth be told, neither team played all that well, but it was competitive, hard-fought, and very exciting.
With the game coming down to the wire like that, you have to think that the short week didn't help Maryland.
I stole it from someone on the TerpTown ACCBoards message board - I put it up as my avatar right before the first MD-Duke game. My favorite part is the dripping blood
