TENTATIVE waiver date and waiver draft

A waiver date of Feb. 7 should be announced by the WUSA once the league and player representatives finalize a collective bargaining agreement that will determine the salary cap, roster size and other compensation issues. On that date the Freedom will pare its active roster to 18 players, not including draftees, in anticipation of a waiver draft tentatively scheduled for Feb. 11. Most WUSA players are in the final option year of their contracts.

Any updates?

Well, this date has come and gone. Has anybody heard anything about a new waiver draft date? We're quickly coming up to the time when training camps are supposed to open.

For that matter, any news on the labor front in general?

SOB...I can't find the dam article but the waiver stuff has been delayed AGAIN.

They are still working on it. From last week's Soccer America newsletter:

The Collective Bargaining Agreement
still hasn't been finalized -- it's close, we're told, but we've been
hearing that since December -- but it looks like rosters will be set
at 16 players this year, two fewer than the first two seasons. The
number of "reserve" players each team may carry seems to change every
day -- some days it's two, others it's four -- but a quartet seems
likely, given that it's a World Cup year. ...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't there two waiver drafts last year? I seem to remember one in the off-season, and then one after training camps when teams made their cuts. Or maybe I'm just thinking of the signing spree the Courage went on because they had the highest waiver priority.

But if they did have two drafts last year, maybe they'll just combine the m this season and have one after the training camps.

Feel free to correct me if I'm talking out of my ass.
