Over the weekend, throngs in numbers approaching almost 80 people worldwide took to the streets to provide a poignant counterpoint to the fringe-position presented by over 6,000,000 anti-war protesters.

Maybe the other 10s of Bush supporters have better things to do than to march, smoke weed, eat veggie burritos, wear Che Guevera t-shirts, and throw rocks into McDonalds'....

This is great, we can do without the time and expense of elections.

Whichever side can get the most protest marchers out gets to run the government. :)

Then we'd be preparing ourselves for an eternal regime of liberalism, since most conservatives actually have jobs and lives and can't travel across the country at the drop of a hat to "protest".

The mainstream media, owned by corporate and weapons industries, has always lowballed the size of anti-war protests, often shrinking hundreds of thousands to "tens of thousands". So I think this is only fair.;)

If you look closely, you'll notice that most of
    them are actually blow-up dolls.
(Wonder where they find redneck blow-up
    dolls, though...)

I know, you're not exactly liberal enough to seriously suggest this.

But at least the dolls armpits are shaved, something I can't say for most of the anti-war women protesters....

You seem to know plenty about blow up
dolls, but still, I believe you're mistaken.
As far as I know, blow up dolls do not
    come with hair.
However, these redneck ones seem to come
with mullet wigs and baseball caps.

I was actually going from your observation.....you brought them up, which must equate some facination with them. Do French use blowup dolls because their body odor drives them away from contact with real women?

Actually, these figures come from the local police. The media has an obligation to report and you decide.

In saying this, we have to ackowledge that the "media" by and large are professionals and have a code of ethics. The worst I see from the media is the ability to under-report and not report certain stories. Well, there will never be a Omnipresent News Service and many just carry stories they get from other sources.

This can get them in trouble. Don Johnson, aka Nash or Sonny, had a story done on some of his not so recent travels to Germany. Think what you will about the guy, but the news services started re-reporting the story after it was first seen. Some did not. In the end, he may file a lawsuit.

If the story has legs, it will be covered. Many times the media takes it too far. Remember the newsworthy Summer of the Shark Attacks? After a further look, the numbers of attacks had not increased. It was just a story that grew, more than the actual numbers. Likewise with the kidnapping stories.

With 24 hours to fill, maybe they take the liberty to provide "news" they think we should be seeing. This brings the corporate influence and the ever present slant certain agencies enjoy to color their news. Hey, after all, they are a business and they must want to cater the news they think their readers, viewers want.

To get back to the topic, it was interesting to hear on NPR on Friday a report on protests. The local organizers (IIRC it was in California) requested the local news team to use their helicopter to take a more acurate picture of the numbers. The local law enforcment said it to be around a quarter million folks, but the media showed around 60k.

Oooops, that ploy backfired on them.

Overall, there could have been more people. In total, if you consider that some folks leave while others come, but in reality what these (any protest) folks want is some huge number to make their case...even if the numbers don't prove it true.

Did you just quote, with a straight face, the most ludicrous slogan since 'Gott mitt uns'? Wow.

Come on, it's bad enough that Fox forgets to put the wink wink thingy ;) after their motto. Unlike them however, you - ostensibly - should have some standards.

Actually, I hit send and bigsoccer said I had too many images in my post, so I had to delete it. It turns out that there was a smile in the post I quoted.

I am glad you caught that one. :)

Two smiles is the limit? Darn!

You're going to throw grapefruits over the plate, I'm going to put them in the centerfield bleachers.

Yeah, because the French don't know anything about romance.

My country has fallen into a freaking rabbit hole. Thank God MLS is just around the corner.

I thought most conservatives spent their free time shooting constitutionally-protected submachine guns at Planned Parenthood clinics and petitioning the Utah legislature to legalize polygamy. And oh yeah, eating "freedom fries" until they need double bypasses and custom-designed swing-out double-doors to fit their fat asses into their SUVs.

I mean, if we're going to generalize, we might as well make it good, right?

We only do that stuff in our free time, when we're not starving old people and polluting the Earth.
