I was looking to start a thread on the current Roland Garros tournament underway in France now. Anyone been following it?

I have in a half-assed way. Agassi's as impressive as ever. But my favorite tennis babe Barbara Schett just got crushed by Serena Williams. Oh well.

Anyone know if there is any TV coverage (and which channel) here in the US?

I'm not really sure. Tennis has kinda turned me off the last couple of years. But USA usually does that grand slams during the week, the the biggies on the weekends/holidays.

Its on NBC. But it has been mostly boring. I don't know why they bother to show Serena or Capriati against some nervous teenager who has no chance. Who wants to watch a 6-0 6-0 match?

It is interesting that Agassi is doing well. Wasn't he in the finals of the French about 20 years ago? Anyway, I think it will get more interesting as we get to the semis and the finals.

ESPN also has a nightly 2 hour "highlights" show. And NBC is showing those players because they want the marginal fan to watch.

How about Coria, beating Aggasi and then saying that the American was his childhood idol. I hope he can win it all for Argentina, but the Spaniards will be tough to beat. Especially Costas, I think.

The Spaniards are really tough on that clay in Paris. The only Americans in the last 15 years who seemed to have any success on it (in the mens draw anyway) seem to have been Agassi and Chang.

Wasn't it deplorable the way the French fans behaved in the Serena Williams and Henin-Hardene match? Just inexcusable. Then again, they are French!

Inexcusable? Are you for real? Have you ever attended a sporting event in your life? Fans boo players on the opposing team. It's not only common, it's a part of the game. Barca fans boo Real players. Celtic fans boo Rangers players. Yankees fans boo Mets players. What makes Serena Williams so special that she shouldn't be booed?

Martin Verkerk... never won a match on a grand slam tournament. Now he's in the final. Great guy, exciting style of play. Finally someone who makes tennis interesting again (for Dutch people at least)

This is tennis, not football. You do not boo when a player misses a first serve nor yell as she is preparing to serve. They also booed her when she challenged calls AFTER she was proven correct. Goes against all tennis etiquette. Guarentee you that it doesn't happen at Wimbledon next month, because the English tennis fans have class.

The appearance was that she was booed because she was American, not because she was a tennis player. And this is tennis, not football or baseball. This is a sport that has fans eject for not silencing their cell phones. A TV report (Sportscenter?) even said that the Umpire thought the booing was not right.

The French crowed just wanted the underdogs to win. This happened during the Australian Open too when Serena was up against Kim in the semi finals. The French public accepted her and applause every (forehand/backhand) winners her made. I think you Americans are talking things too far with the French, a good example is the WWE. Anyway, its none of my business, you sort it out with the French.
