Most of this list seems pretty legit. Obviously it's subjective, but most of the picks at least have a shot at the titile. Biggest problem is the omission of Indiana, Charlotte, and UConn instead of the Lobos. Nothing but respect for New Mexico, but in comparison to the other teams it seems like sort of a stretch. Ten national title contenders
New Mexico needs to fill a couple of big holes, but it easily belongs on this list, far more so than programs like West Virginia or Georgetown, which have never done anything. (Picking those two above UConn is downright crazy.) Louisville and UCSB both lost a ton of talent and don't seem like good choices, either.
I keep hearing Charlotte. But, are they really that good or more a team that last year had the stars align for them at the right time, much like UMASS a few years back?
I have followed Charlotte for the past 3 years and can say they improved each year under Gunn. After watching them in their 1st exhibition game earlier this week, I think they will continue to excel under Langan. They did not appear to have "lost" anything. They have depth with their returning players (8 starters from the Finals), some players that were injured last season, and their new recruits. I truely believe that the A-10 conference does not get the respect it deserves. IMO, Charlotte is that good. Unfortunately none of the ACC schools are on their schedule this year, as in the past, for any comparisons. Of course, only time will tell....
Big underdog that surprised a lot of people. Repeat of last season is unlikely, but then again no one saw that coming either. Friday we find out. About time..!
