What are the ten cities in the world with the most clubs in the top league of their country? How many EPL teams are in London?
I think I just messed that up completely. I simply put the first number that was in my head, should have counted them out.
According to rsssf 12 out of the 20 are based in Buenos Aires, but I don't know if theyre counting the greater area as well.
They are. If you count the greater area than yes there are a ton but for the city itself in the First Division it's those that I mentioned. Though I might have made a mistake with Tigre who I think are from the greater Buenos Aires area and not the actual city. In the Second Division there are 2 more I believe one of which is "Nueva Chicago" who were in the First Division not too long ago. So counting First and Second Division there are about 8 or 9 clubs in Buenos Aires.
Montevideo, in Uruguay 14 out of the 16 teams in the Uruguayan first division are from Montevideo. Don't think any other league can beat that.
LOL...What the hell. Montevideo isn't even that big of a city. Rio de Janiero has to have a few as well.
Yeah I just checked. Doesn't even have 4 million people. I am surprised they are even able to hold together a professional league. Montevideo looks very beautiful though...wonder what the girlies look like.
rio de janeiro have 4 teams: Flamengo, Vasco, Botafogo and Fluminense) , but had 7 teams in 80's (the other 4 plus Bangu, Campo grande and América-rj) , and the city have 24 teams. Cities with more professional teams in brazil: Rio de Janeiro (24 times) - América, Bangu, Barcelona, Barra da Tijuca, Bonsucesso, Botafogo, Campo Grande, Ceres, CFZ, Estácio de Sá, Everest, Flamengo, Fluminense, Juventus, Madureira, Olaria, Portuguesa, Rio São Paulo, São Cristóvão, Semeando Cidadania, União Central, União de Marechal Hermes, Vasco e Villa Rio Campo Grande (9) - Baianinho, Campo Grande, Cene, Comercial, Moreninhas, Operário, Portuguesa, Taveirópolis e União Fortaleza (9) - América, Calouros do Ar, Ceará, Ferroviário, Fortaleza, Messejana, Terra e Mar, Tiradentes e Uniclinic Belém (7) - Independente, Paysandu, Remo, Sport Belém, Tiradentes, Tuna Luso e Vila Rica Manaus (7) - América, Fast, Libermorro, Nacional, Rio Negro, São Raimundo e Sul América
almost all of then, but are very small stadiums. only bangu, américa, campo grande, botafogo and vasco have big stadiums.
If we are counting ALL professional clubs, then I would be really interested if someone could count all the professional clubs in London. Moscow has I believe six teams: FC Moscow Saturn Dynamo Moscow CSKA Spartak Lokomotiv
Saturn don't play in Moscow, but it is nearby (particularly in Russian terms) London has premier: Arsenal Chelsea West Ham Spurs Fulham CCC: Watford (not technically London, but are part of London's urban sprawl) Charlton Crystal Palace QPR Lg1: Leyton Orient Millwall Lg2: Brentford Barnet Dagenham BS Prem: Grays (about the very fringe of what you could call London) BS South: Hampton & Richmond Fisher Bromley Hayes & Yeading Welling Sutton United ...and many other part time clubs below there
That is no reason to overlook the fact that their league is highly centralised. Besides, it's not clear whether this is about the ten largest cities or ten cities with the highest concentration. It's quite true there's not much else beyond Montevideo (I hope an Uruguayan doesn't read this ) but still there are three or four regions with populations over 100.000. But the fact that most of the sports are concentrated in Montevideo tells a story. I've been there only once and I was very young. I've met a few more-than-decent Uruguayan chicks along the way, though. The resemble the Argentine-type (if there is any!) for the most part.
Concerning Uruguay wasn't it only in the last few years that teams from outside Montevideo played in the top level?
sounds rather like (different sport I know, but...) Aussie Rules football, where 9 of the 16 teams come from Melbourne (and one other from just down the road). More remarkable is that the games average a shade under 37,000.
I couldn't tell as I am not familiar with their system. What I do know is that teams from different cities take part in the "national" league (don't know whether that is by qualification, invitation, or any other scheme, though). They have different associations for Montevideo and the other regions, but the fact that the regional association tournament is amateur needs to be compensated by some mechanism that allows regional clubs to participate in the professional league.
Santiago is right up there, currently with 7: Audax Italiano Universidad de Chile Santiago Morning Colo Colo Universidad Católica Unión Española Palestino
São Paulo clubs have been more successful recently. IIRC, a couple of years ago they had 3 teams the qualified for the Copa Libertadores. But I think there was only 1 other club based in São Paulo (São Caetano) and they got relegated recently. Actually, so did Corinthians so there might only be 2 left(?) plus whoever might've got promoted in the recently completed season.
são caetano its in metropolitan area of são paulo, but its in the city of são caetano do sul. from the city of são paulo we have são paulo, corinthians, palmeiras and juventus (a small club tha didnt play any national division).
