so dallas Rochester and St Louis all look like crap. thats great /s. then again , when has a last minute addition in indoor soccer ever produced a quality team? I honestly cant recall any of the last second add-ins being anything other than doormats. Twisters, Riot, Roar, etc. and the Metrostars didnt even start the season this year.
Chicago Soul at least made the playoffs, but I honestly do not remember how much lead time they had. Couldn't have been a lot, could it? Sonora went 17-3 in their first season but, again, I forget when they joined the league.
Saint Louis has a few decent players but lack of scorers is a real issue. They won't be as bad as Rochester but they won't win consistently either. They probably win a bit more later in the season. A team that doesn't keep at least some of their best players won't win much. Long time fans are very frustrated right now. Though they do a good job filling seats with groups and kids soccer clubs. Those occasional fans don't care about winning as much.
Yes that was a big blow to lose Stinson, Reget, and Acosta just as things were looking up last season. Had they kept those 3 added one or two more top players they would of been in contention for a playoff spot instead of probably finishing near the bottom. A winning team would probably make their good attendance even better. So far, teams like Mesquite, Sonora, Florida, Turlock all look better than the Ambush, So if they are doing it why can't STL? Hopefully the new ownership, announced today, will bring in better talent and actually keep them. St.louis and their fans deserve a competitive team!
In indoor soccer since when does winning equal higher attendance? How many teams in the history of the sports have folded after a winning record? Didn't the Louisville Thunder fold in the AISA after winning the championship? I know that the Minnesota Strikers folded after winning the Eastern Division title in 1988.
No but teams that don't make the playoffs are more likely to fold in indoor soccer. It's more a red flag than anything. Teams that don't make the playoffs are either incompetently run or lack the resources to field a team. Obviously there are exceptions. But teams like Baltimore, Milwaukee, and San Diego make the playoffs EVERY year, while St. Louis and Harrisburg act like there is some mystical science to it that involves a 15 year rebuild plan and a lot of luck and faith. The Heat are finally on the right track though.
