I'd love to see the stripes stick around, but I just can't see it happening. A re-brand would need to overhaul everything, I'd think at least.
Honestly, I think that who ever buys this team can at least either somehow keep the chiva as a mascot(just make it look different) or keep the stripes in order to represent the current fans that will most likely stay with this team. JUST KEEP SOMETHING THAT REPRESENTS OUR STRUGGLES, PASSION AND HERITAGE!

How does LA Aztecs not make this list? Is this a case of current Chivas USA fans not liking Aztecs because it has associations to Club America. Aztecs retains the Mexican character of the team while broadening that appeal to all Mexicans while at the same time harkening back to the NASL Aztecs which would appeal to the larger Angelino soccer community (something that is desperately needed). In any case, the thing that is needed most of all is committed ownership a la Sporting KC.
I think NASL owns that trademark for Aztecs. And i doubt they will sell it to MLS when NASL probably wants to put a team in South California.
Most Angelinos don't even know there used to be a team called the Aztecs. Anyone who does remember them, has to have been living in LA in the mid to late 70s. 51% of the population (according to the 2010 census) are under the age of 35. 59% are under the age of 40 (someone who is 40 would've been 7 when the team disbanded). So the percentage is probably somewhere between 41-49% of who would even be able to remember that time period, and then that doesn't even take into account whether the person was living in LA at that time and even a fan of the team.

Interesting news coming from the Goat Parade this morning. The league took control of the Los Angeles SC and Los Angeles F.C. trademarks. They also took the time to clean-up both of the trademarked logos. Chivas USA was only Mexican-inspired because of its tie to Chivas Guadalajara. Now that Vergara's out of the mix, doesnt the Mexican influence leave with him?
Well, I think they're still going to go for a "latino feel/influence," whatever that really means, who knows? I think Garber said something to this affect in a recent interview.

I think you've made the mistake of confusing the Cosmos legacy with that of the Aztecs (it's common, don't feel bad.) The Aztecs never drew flies. with the exception of last season, Chivas outdrew the Aztecs and have actually been around longer now, so what's the point of taking on that name? Oh, and NASL holds the rights to that name, and they're not going to let go of it anytime soon.
The team name should be Club Deportivo Los Angeles. CDLA for short if you want. This will make a nice name so they can come to Miami and play FC Internacional de Miami (or Atlético Miami), which are the 2 top names for our new team.
