Here is the logo from the America League (which if you have any interest in logo design you should check out). I like it but a team anywhere but Charlotte likely won't draw many South Carolinians.
That's fine, its just that the Railhawks are a pretty good team and as far as I know are the only pro team repping North Carolina. Seems energy focused on getting behind soccer in your region would be best served supporting that team than pie in sky debates over "MLS". Just my opinion, not trolling. Someone said Cary is far off from other major areas of the state, if so then fair enough.
because Carolina Ungrateful-Spoiled-Punk-Brats-Who-Only-Know-How-To-Repeat-What-Their-Professors-Say-But-Have-No-Real-World-Experience-To-Back-It-Up isn't very catchy.
you mean all of the people who are going to be the fans? because it sure as hell isn't going to be the inbred redneck portion of the population.
So people who are or were in the military; or are patriotic and supportive of the military are "inbred redneck?" Newsflash: you don't have to be ungrateful, sniveling spoiled wimp to like soccer. You may want to try and make less generalizations. It makes you just sound bitter. Edit: Anyways, let me say this in a way that is less confrontational. I believe the same message that you wanted to convey could have been said as easily as, "Guys, I understand all of the support behind the military name themes and understand that Carolina has a proud military heritage, but for a Carolina team based in Raleigh, I think we might be better off with a team name that is more specific towards that area such as Triangle FC."
I really like that... But don't know about the colors. Could you try the deep navy blue of South Carolina and also add the red, white, and gold as secondary colors. But I do like the contrast of navy blue and sky blue.
you conflated the military with the redneck. i simply said that the target audience is mostly not caring about the military given the mostly liberal bent of soccer fans. separately, you mocked the well educated, young, affluent, professional or counter culture type of people the Triangle is rife with and who would make up the core fanbase ... and i simply said the other major population in the Triangle area is rednecks, so unless you think they can support a soccer team (unlikely since they more often than not think soccer is foreign and socialist) you should be less derogatory towards the core fan type. none of that had anything to do with military.
There is a massive military presence not that far from the Triangle. And the only top-level professional team in the area recognizes military members literally twice every game (and gets standing ovations literally twice every game). Seems to go over just fine with the local population.
The thing is.. North and South Carolina are surprisingly vastly different in terms of culture. South Carolinians tend to identify as having more in common with Georgia than NC; and North Carolina has more in common with Virginia than SC. It is weird but it is true. People try to group us together but we are just.. different. As an NC resident, I personally would rather support a "Charlotte, Raleigh, or Greensboro" team than another "Carolina" team. Also as you mentioned, "Carolina" teams based in NC tend to get very little support from South Carolina.
I know about the differences indeed. I do disagree on the city name over Carolina though. I would have less attachment to a Greensboro or Charlotte team. If the Railhawks were the Cary Railhawks, would you be a fan? I never would have because of my hate of Cary.
I grew up in South Carolina -- I never noticed or thought that South Carolinians associated themselves with Georgia. Sure there are Braves fans but in general there seems to be more hatred directed towards Georgia especially UGA. I think a team in Charlotte could definitely tap into the South Carolina market, but that a team in Raleigh might as well be in Timbuktu as far as South Carolinians are concerned. In general I agree though that although we are the Carolinas, they are 2 very distinct areas with minimal commonality.
...which will be moving to New York City in a matter of a few years. The Triad is way too bucolic, apologies if that offends anyone. I really only see RDU as the place to be. Charlotte is Buzz City. Let the Capital have its dues. And I think naming the team after one of our cities would be far too divisive. How would the team ever get more regional support, which will already be an uphill challenge, by calling itself the Charlotte, Charleston, Columbia, Raleigh whatevers. It's not in the interest of the people who will finance the team to limit themselves from Day 1. As to the military conversation...I'm not a huge fan of the armed forces, but the institution deserves respect. As a North Carolinian, I would be stoked if the team chose a name honoring the military history of the area. Carolina Airborne FC.
You know I like you ElBo, but that's the same type of generalization you ask others to avoid. As an NCSU graduate, I could take offense at that statement, but I won't. Moving on: "AIRBORNE" is not JUST about the 82nd, its one of many good connections. The others are of course: "FIRST IN FLIGHT" and "HIS AIRNESS MICHAEL MF JORDAN" As far as the Railhawks go, call me shallow, but the name and the colors distanced me a little. I have no connection to a RailHawk, but I did see MJ play at UNC, I've been to Kitty Hawk, and my grandpa jumped with the 82.
For a club in Charlotte - NCSC. SC and stand for both Soccer Club and South Carolina to appeal to those living south of Carowinds. As for Raleigh, I love Carolina Airborne. And I truly believe that putting both in MLS would create a great rivalry that would allow both teams to do very well.
I agree with the aviation theme. Kitty Hawk, 82nd Airborne, whatever else (I only lived in NC for 6 months and it was WAY out west). HondaJet is based at GSO, IIRC. Be cool if that were a workable jersey sponsor. Raleigh used t have a lower league team called the Flyers. I wonder if anybody still owns the right to that name. As for the geographical part of the name, I get it that Raleigh and Charlotte and the Triad are all quite different, but I believe one MLS team would be full-saturation as far as MLS. So, I like Carolina. Carolina Flyers FC.
Also, the Raleigh Fliers were an USISL team back in the day who played at Broughton Highschool wherein, my boy Ben won 25,000 dollars at the half time challenge!
No one has said much lately, so I thought I might pitch a new team name: Racing Carolina SC Honoring our car racing traditions in the Carolinas, paying homage to Charlotte Motor Speedway and joining the ranks of other historic Racing clubs around the world:
I agree the Battery name and logo is one the best in the country. As for names: (SC) Indigo Carolina Carolina Crescent United C. C. Battery C. Troopers Confederates of C. Corporal C. C. Malitia Also I think the Carolinas is one of the few places a multi city team could work (obv. fixed cost probs aside) Charleston-Char. Could you imagine the enormous casual fan base for 1 game a month?
yeah. Well, it's more like we just think we are better than you. We have more "heritage", 2 almost defenitionaly succsessful successions. Hugo and the Cocks and Tigers also don't trust what is on paper or books, or as local Charlestonians term "Truthiness". And you betrayed your Carolina name by voting for Obama and communism
