The Jacksonville Generals played in the 1987/88 American Indoor Soccer Association post-season Challenge Cup.
There has got to be a Seamen joke in this conversation somewhere . . . Honestly, I really liked Armada as a name for the SG. Not sure who brought that up on FB but I voted for Andy's or Andrew's Armada to be the official SG name. First Coast Elite has grown on me though, and I believe they've stated they are open to changing it once a team name is officially announced.
The team I support from living there for 6 years uses the City Crest as their logo though they are know as the "Lillywhites". Though I do think that we put emphasis more on a name or mascot over here than they do over there. How often do you hear people refering to Man U as the red devils?
Speaking of whites, Bolton (the whites, super whites, white men) is the Wanderers. I know this goes against what I said about not recycling European names (FC, United, Sporting, etc . . .) but I will say that Jacksonville Wanderers has a nice ring to it and that is one moniker that no American team has managed to steal yet. Of course, Bolton is my favorite English team so I am 100% biased here.
You could take the Wanderers name and create a nautical-inspired logo, since ships do wander the seven seas
If you do something like that you can create a rivalry with Indy and Virginia, have the name play off the Civil War linked names of the teams. Call it the Caisson Cup or something like that.
Is it just me, of does the circle around the shield look like a life preserver? Take out "NASL 2015," replace it with Armada and you're all set. Lazy? Maybe. But I really like the "temporary" logo.
If you look at the bottom of the post you'll see two links embedded in the explanation. They will take you to what I mentioned.
Just shooting an idea out after reading a history of jax on wikipedia. Jacksonville Gunrunners. a nickname for Jax residents that smuggle weapons to cuba during the spanish american war. I think it sound kinda cool
I'm throwing in the name "Admirals." From my memory the name "Armada" was thrown around because of the Navy influence in Jax. When I think of it though, I think of the Spanish fleets, and Jacksonville as a whole isn't rooted primarily in Spanish heritage. The admiral, on the other hand, is the highest rank of naval officers. I think it pays homage to Jax's navy influence and it speaks towards the excellence we wish for our team to achieve. EDIT: I see that @mamitchell and @soccerelvis mentioned the name "Admirals" previously, so I guess I'm just endorsing it.
Was thinking and maybe someone can mock this up, what's everyone's thoughts on white, orange and grey. It's a unique combination and I think it would look great. Something like white and orange stripes at home and solid gray with maybe white trim on the road. They could incorporate both the light orange and red-orange in the current temporary logo. Thoughts?
Apologies if anybody has already posted this elsewhere, as I was not familiar with this site, but this fella has a lot of ideas (for sale at that). I love the Winn Dixie sponsor idea though. http://www.charlessollarsconcepts.com/jacksonville-nasl-concept-kits/
Why on earth would you want an outfit like Winn-Dixie as your sponsor? I mean they can't be bothered to have decent stores, why would they spend money on sponsoring a soccer team. You do remember the fantastic 'We are getting better all the time' commercials they ran a few years ago admitting that they pretty much sucked?
For starters, because the company is based in Jax . . . Secondly, because I love me some Smoked Mullet Dip and I don't know where else to find it
as an outsider I suggested "Jacksonville Leatherbacks" in the name the team contest..... Local Animal and cool sounding name overall.... would be interested in whats popular with locals? Any names picking up steam?
