D.C. United News Release For Immediate Release - June 16, 2003 D.C. United Fines Head Coach Ray Hudson CHANTILLY, VA (June 16, 2003) - D.C. United announced today that the club has fined Head Coach Ray Hudson $500 for an incident that occurred at the conclusion of United's recent game against the Dallas Burn on May 31st. On leaving the field after the game, Ray Hudson responded inappropriately to fans surrounding the exit tunnel. The MLS Disciplinary Committee also reviewed the incident, but given United's sanctions against Ray Hudson, has determined that further penalty is unnecessary.
He was simply following Rule One of the new Good Sport Program: Good Sport focuses on three areas that are key to influencing fans to act responsibly. 1. Communicating a series of messages to spectators that prompt attitude changes and remind spectators of the importance of responsible behavior.
Tell it's more than just this ... Because if he's getting fined for flipping off a bunch of beligerant Burn fans then this is a total crock of sh!t. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=1164480#post1164480
Were there any Burn fans there? If he was fined for "innappropriate response" I'd imagine it would be some of our our fans telling him to pack his bags or such.
So what did the Burn fans do to get such a reaction? No matter how lewd and insulting we've been to Ray, nor how awful the result for DC (last-minute winner, etc.), he always applauds section 101 as he goes under the tunnel. Must have gotten to him.
If anyone's serious about donating, make checks out to Ray Hudson directly and send with a note to Stephen Zack's attention; mail them to United: 14120 Newbrook Drive, Suite 170 Chantilly, VA 20151. I'm sure Zack will hand them over. Or if people want I'll collect them and do the same, but you might as well send directly to United....I'll let Stephen know some checks may show up. David
for the many DCU fans who apparently have money burning a hole in their pocket, why don't you make a contribution to United for DC in Ray's name or something like that...
That is a good idea. Just forward the check I wrote out for the "Cowbell" tshirt as it doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon.
Jose, while I normally admire your ability to remain positive in all situations, you're really pushing it here. That said, just be glad Sigi isn't our coach.
