Though I think we are getting ahead of ourselves, I too would like to offer a few suggestions as to an appropriate name. My preference would be more of a European name, such as Milwaukee SC (or SC Milwaukee). For those who prefer more an American nickname with a European twist, Cream City SC would be a good choice. Milwaukee Bavarians was mentioned, and I definitely like the nod to the established team, but what about Bayern Milwaukee? I would also like to voice some support for AC Milwaukee.

What I would not like is a generic name that doesn't reflect either Milwaukee or Wisconsin. You know the type: Milwaukee [insert vicious animal name here].

Just a few ideas to ponder.

I like Bayern Milwaukee. Or even Milwaukee 48ers (after the first wave of German immigrants to Milwaukee). But if ethnicity is gonna be a factor, then a Mexican oriented name like Club Deportivo Milwaukee should also be tossed into the mix.

Well, being a MU student and Warrior for life, I have no problem with a Milwaukee franchise using the name. I still want MU to go back to Warriors. Since they never will, a soccer club bearing the name will have to do.

I'm all for getting rid of any ethnic angle on the team name. Also I'd hesitate to use anything already associated with a local club or school. I for one have a complete hatred of Marquette (UWM grad) and the Bavarians S.C. so to name our MLS team after something local that for some may have negative connotations would be a very bad first step.

And I would put forward the "Iron Brigade" as a name for the vibrant supporters section...ala the Wisconsin Civil War unit. It sounds hard and rough and is perfect. Barnburners...what a bunch on pansies:)

    Cheers

Since sports fans in Milwaukee and Cleveland are getting along so well, how about a name like Great Lakes SC? We already have one team named for a multi-state region (New England), so why not go this route? Not only would have the potential for expanding the fanbase beyond Wisconsin, but it would play off the whole "we're at war with all other Midwestern cities" mentality that a fair number of Chicagoans have.

The numbers in this poll look a bit skewed to me. Must be one, or possibly two, of them Marquette supporters. (ahem . . .) And how can you believe that in this overly-politically-correct age that Warriors would even get on the board? Have you already forgotten Chief Illiniwikiwaukee? (whatever)

While I'm a Warrior forever, I think it's highly unlikely the team would be named after a mascot that would be so decisive (on the Badger vs. MU front not to mention the whole pc thing).

I think an interesting question is the "Wisconsin" vs. "Milwaukee" vs. "Nickname" i.e. "Dairyland SC", "Cream City S.C." Etc.

The huge role that the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association will play in this combined with the potential that the stadium may not be located in the City of Milwaukee would give ammunition to the "Wisconsin" or "Nickname" moniker.

Fun to think about, but we're not at that stage yet.

Ps: I liked the history on the Iron Brigade. Thx Patrick.

As a lifelong Milwaukeean, I know I speak for a lot of people when I say let all further mention the name "Dairyland SC" end here. Not only are there no dairy farms or cheese factories in Milwaukee County, but do we really need to further the notion that Wisconsin is just one giant rural land mass with no urban life to speak of?

Besides, it makes too much sense to play up the rivalry with the Fire by giving the team an aquatic image.

And, of course, Dairyland would turn into Fairyland.

I'm randomly wondering if the City of Brookfield is involved in the site selection, based on the fact that there is a lot of soccer support, they've movers and shakers, and because of its wide open spaces.

I'd bet my bottom dollar that the City of Milwaukee is out of the question.

    Sorry, somewhat off topic.

Yeah, there's a big open area right on Capital Drive east of Y (it's actually in Pewaukee I think). It might be kinda swampy though

Not to mention the fact that there are a great deal of loaded people in the area.

    Downtown Phoenix

We are going through (have already been through with other teams) the whole Phoenix vs. Arizona (as well as FC vs SC) conversation. For us it comes down to the fact that nationally and internationally the name Phoenix outweighs Arizona when it comes to name recognition. The same has held true with FC Dallas, Chicago Fire, New York RB, and LA Galaxy (none of which is in their namesake cities). As I have spoken to Peter W. before, I grew up in Whitefish Bay (just down the street from where Peter lives right now) but I always say that I grew up in Milwaukee (and proud of it!). Unless there is some sort of complete negative vibe from the burbs that would completely and utterly negate fans, then Milwaukee it should be. For those fans in Madison, Eau Claire or Green Bay it would/should of little concern where the stadium is actually located in and around the largest city in the state. As rare a comodity as MLS franchises will be (18 nation wide) I think that the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association will be ecastic to have MLS just the same regardless of whether its Milwaukee FC or not...Good luck to Peter who is a class act and all "Milwaukee" supporters...

Personally, I'd prefer that if the team goes the "Wisconsin" or some other regional route if the stadium is built outside of the city. Although I might be willing to forgive them keeping Milwaukee in the team name if they're still in Milwaukee County.

I'm not a fan of "Wisconsin."

It sounds like the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, and "minor league" is an image the league is trying to dispel.

    Go with Milwaukee.

Milwaukee Blues for PBR. There we go, I guess I've thrown that hat into the ring.

I would prefer "Milwaukee" over "Wisconsin". As long as a potential team is not named something like SC/FC Milwaukee, etc. I want an American styled team name for my American MLS franchise.

I've always liked Milwaukee City FC but if we're going with CityIceMan's suggestion, Milwaukee City Fusion.... er.... Mutiny... maybe Wiz... ;)

Maybe bring back the Milwaukee Braves? Try and get one of the casinos to sponsor them (the tribes did support MU when they were the Warriors).

How about: Milwaukee Creamers. Actually, since everybody seems to like green how about getting John Deere to sponsor and be John Deere SC? Man you guys would have the coolest trucker style hats and logo.

all my work computer has is MS Paint. That and I am not much of an artist. But this is what I would love to see color-wise for a Milwaukee (or any MLS team to be honest) for a primary and change uniform.

OK first off... I'm not seriously advocating this but...

I just came across these jerseys...
CHECK EM OUT THEY'RE FRIGGIN PLAID!!!!!!!!!

The Milwaukee Admirals AHL Hockey franchise with the plaid get-up... That's awesome...

Makes me think a potential MLS Expansion team in the area could pull it off.... Milwaukee Plaid... (not quite the Plymouth Argyle... or Tartan Army... but it's a work in progress)

Hey, if someone could come up with a legitimate plaid name and jersey that would be awesome... I'm stumped at the moment ( I mean the pic says "the plaid don't look that bad"... which has a nice ring to it... calling them "the plaid" seems cool for a fan standpoint... but it doesnt fit for an official name)

    I somewhat agree...

    BRILLIANT!...

My idea was to get Billy Joel to come out and sing 'we didn't start the fire' over and over again... they'd be sure to leave the pitch after 15 minutes...

but it might do the same to the home supporters...
    Like... say... Milwaukee Wave... perhaps?

That was the reason I agreed... everything to do with Milwaukee these days has to do with water... (even the brewing past/present) has to do with it... and you already had the team with it... which did pretty well for a crappy USL team...

Ok whitecaps already exist... breakers were a chic team... and the lakers... come on now... we all know why that doesn't work...

How about just buying the rights to the Wave?

(you mean letters not syllables? So by that formula... when Hartford gets a team they should name them Hartford Utd. after Harchester Utd.?)

you do realize no one calls them AC Milan... theyre just known as Milan right... and you will be known as Milwaukee... but that will be the same anyway... so why bother?

I'm pretty sure the Bavarians was meant to be the Europoser name... based off of Bayern Munchen (which translates to Bavarian Munich)... to take advantage of the German heritage of the region... but... you think its filled with Italians who are gonna stop watching AC Milan to watch AC Milwaukee... go ahead...

I didn't realize europosing now even spread to copying now defunct world league football teams...

(you do realize theyre not even remotely the only team world-wide to use that style of name, right?)

    bad ones...

Calling the team the "Hello Wisconsin!" makes more sense than most of those ideas! Then your great rival could be the "Cleveland Rocks!"

You got the right theory, but were very bad in the excecution...

Milwaukee Wave (or Milwaukee Wave Utd.) should really be the name

if not... other water names could include

Rivers, Streamers, Brooks, Creeks, Lakefront, Shorefront, Wells, Rain, Tide, Sea Foam, Surface Tension, Ripple Effect, Wakeboarders, Reservoirs (maybe Reservoir Dogs), Deep Sea Divers (probably not a good soccer team name), Pools, Sewers, Drainage... blah blah blah... AND NONE OF THEM WORK!

and would all fail in not being the Wave
