Yes both songs are amazing, I really vote for this one. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, this is a f*cking amazing song!!! To me it symbolizies everything the Rapids have made me feel.

Nine Inch Nails:Hurt

Johnny Cash: Hurt

Lyrics:

I hurt myself today
to see if i still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but i remember everything

what have I become?

my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
you could have it all
my empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of shit
upon my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
i cannot repair
beneath the stain of time
the feeling disappears
you are someone else
I am still right here

what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
you could have it all
my empire or dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

if I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

Agree, we need to start sayin F.U.F.O and just do it on ourselves....

I love "Hurt" for the anthem! And my vote goes to the Johnny Cash version. I love the sound of it and the lyrics and perfect for this. :) Good find!

I approve of this song.

NIN version > Johnny Cash version imo

I hate to be a downer here and I don't want to discourage the brainstorming, but I strongly disapprove of Hurt. Is this a soccer club or a party for angsty teenagers? Those lyrics are so depressing and self-wallowing they make me want to puke. The NIN version just screams "Emo".

What kind of fan sings "I will let you down, I will make you hurt" to their own team?

I have to agree - shouldn't an "anthem" be uplifting? At the very least, something people don't mind joining in on.

(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction?
Won't Get Fooled Again?
Whip It?
Bad to the Bone?
Walk The Dinosaur?
It's My Party (And I'll Cry If I Want To)?

:D

Let's keep brainstorming!

Thank you Quinny.....I've thought the same thing, but of course what I say always falls on deaf ears.

The way this whole "Anthem" thing is going on cracks me up really.

Same Ideas were going on this time last year and what was done? Nothing.

Hell the "supporters" can't even get a few good chants together and going...let alone a "anthem" for the entire stadium to use.

Nice thoughts...good intentions....but.. nothing but the same amount of nothing.

Haha, "Whip It" had crossed my mind. :) I also like Thin Lizzie's "The Boys Are Back in Town" because when we play home games they will indeed be back in town. Lots of lyrics, but at least people can get the refrain. Mr Chili says it's not powerful enough though. I also really like this one song---it is my own personal anthem to the Rapids---but the problem is, nobody knows this song. It is called "Are You With Me?" but it is not the song by Vaux, whoever the * that is. It's by a group called Color, and if you google them it would appear they have never done anything else before or since. Here are they lyrics, with my favorite parts in bold for emphasis:

So you're out there on the street
Shedding your second skin
You can't help but to repeat
Running the rat race on the road to ruin
Secrets kept quiet
For reasons not too bright
They always seem to let the
Catastrophe out of the bag

Chorus:
Every antic ups the ante
Lend a helping hand
Things are getting desperate and its
time to take a stand
Are you with me?
Are you with me?

Times are changing
At the blink of an eye
I don't know what the day will bring
But I'm glad to be alive

Chorus

This will be our year
We just need a remedy

Like a substituted Savior
Who wants somebody
To need somebody
To love somebody
again

When TV's the place of worship
The wheels are put in motion
We're all on a sinking ship
setting sail into the ocean

By "supporters" are you saying you are or are not one? Just wanting to clarify; you seem to be standing back pointing a finger. We're open to suggestions from anyone who wants to participate in trying to improve the atmosphere.

I think we can all agree, the SGs need to step it up a bit. The question is, do you want to be part of the solution or complain about the problem? (no mailce intended)

Here is the Bill Withers version of "Lean on ME"

Sometimes in our lives, we all have pain, we all have sorrow.
But if we are wise, we know that there's always tomorrow.
Lean on me, when you're not strong and I'll be your friend.
I'll help you carry on, for it won't be long 'til I'm gonna need somebody to lean on.
Please swallow your pride, if have things you need to borrow.
For no one can fill those needs that you won't let show.
You just call on me brother when you need a hand.
We all need somebody to lean on.
I just might have a problem that you'll understand.
We all need somebody to lean on.
Lean on me when you't not strong, and I'll be your friend.
I'll help you carry on, for it won't be long 'til I'm gonna' need
somebody to lean on.
You just call on me brother if you need a friend.
We all need somebody to lean on.
I just might have a problem that you'll understand.
We all need somebody to lean on.
If there is a load you have to bear that you can't carry.
I'm right up the road, I'll share your load if you just call me.
Call me ( if you need a friend)
Call me

My last post wasn't very constructive, so let me throw out what I think are good parameters for song searching:

- Something with a strong melodic chorus thats easy to sing too. I know this probably obvious to everyone, but if you pick a song that has complicated lyrics it isn't going to sound very good when a large group of drunken people try to belt it out.

- It needs to be a song thats driven by lyrics and not by instruments. Just because something has a good beat does not mean it will sound any good.

- The song needs to be uplifting. Nobody is going to sing angry or sorrow-filled lyrics because:
1) It sounds cheesy and lame.
2) Nobody goes to sporting events to feel angry or depressed.
Remember we're trying to encourage the team here.

- Pick a song everyone knows and use the original lyrics. Its unrealistic to think that we can get people to learn new words. This should rule out any obscure bands or tweaking some famous song.

- Pick a song from somebody your parents/kids have actually heard of. If its well known, that will ensure people can actually sing it and will be more likely to do so.

I would consider "Lean on Me" and "Rocky Mountain High" as good examples. I would consider "Hurt" and "Whip It" bad ones.

If it hums well, then it probably sounds good when 10,000 people are trying to sign along in an open pit stadium. I would also think slightly slower pace would be good.

This should narrow the field considerably. To what, at this juncture, I'm not entirely sure, but it's a good parameter.

Obvious to us Python fans, but does it have mass appeal? It's certainly hummable, and whistleable(?), and a very good choice. (I'm down with it, but I'm a Python fan, I'm down with the Lumberjack song too)

It even has a whistling part - that should prove an interesting sound with a few thousand people trying it...

Any others?

Oh I Very much AM a supporter. And Yes I am pointing a finger because things aren't getting done. I HAVE made many suggestions. All of which went on deaf ears...not much was done with last season and this season appears to be starting out the same way.

Oh and when a supporters group starts losing members....red flag. Wouldn't you say?........and it is NOT directly concerning FC and the Rapids end resluts.

That said .....don't look at it as "complaining" about the problem...look at it as,Hey...it's broke,so fix it. That would be plan A. The preferred solution.

....oh and I am finding solutions. Just finding different ears.....This is plan B.

And no love lost here Mr. Jimmyco.....:)

Usually, I'd find it too cheesy, but I'm actually a big fan of Lean on Me for a team anthem. Either just the first four verses or some of the last few should do:

You just call on me brother if you need a friend.
We all need somebody to lean on.
I just might have a problem that you'll understand.
We all need somebody to lean on.
If there is a load you have to bear that you can't carry.
I'm right up the road, I'll share your load if you just call me.

I think it'd be great to sing, would work any time Clavijo's bunkering fails...and it's basically the American version of You'll Never Walk Alone, so yeah, why not.

Oh, and now that we have several songs for ideas...any way we can get a poll started, and maybe clips/lyrics from the songs for the first few posts?

We should ask the cheerleaders they think would be like a totaly good song.

I'm all for a rousing chorus of Slayer's Reign in Blood myself.

Is it lyric driven, or possibly have mass appeal?

If the cheerleaders wish to post, that's fine; I don't understand why you feel the need to take up their mantle.

Hmmm, thoughts from a Celtic fan first and foremost.

- There are worse things than using an anthem which has already been used by another team - see YNWA, though originally a Liverpool anthem, sung by Glasgow Celtic to a unique effect.

- Songs which reflect the locality, traditions of the team. Fields of Athenry works brilliantly as a Celtic anthem - Colorado is surely a US state with much character, culture to be reflected.

- Nothing too complex or long, it has to catch on remember - expect just the chorus at first.

:) I really like your team, with a Stadium in place there is an oppurtunity to form one of the US' most loved clubs.

well there was obvously some kind of lack of communication between this past year and this current year.

Sometimes you have to give a little to get a little. Open communication with the FO is something that we need to have because if not then they take away everything we/you/and your momma have worked for.

I know a bunch of you have a problem with the current situation... but hey Complaining and btiching about it is not going to help. As Jimmyco kind of said BECOME PART OF THE SOLUTION, NOT THE PROBLEM....
