Which is totally insane for any MLS club (or any club, for that matter) to pay him. It's possible he could score 15 goals next season. It's probably more likely that he'll score 5.
My biggest hope is that he has had a thorough medical. If he checks out as healthy, good knees/cartilage etc, then he has the skill to do well in this league. If he's healthy, he may end up being a bargain. But as you said, more likely he'll end up poaching the odd goal here or there and will be overpaid. Hope he's not on a long term contract. Welcome home (ish), kid.
He's not healthy and won't ever be healthy. His knee issues are sadly never going away. He can play and contribute, and his talent would put him in the upper tier of MLS strikers, but if you're going to reject him based on shoddy knees in the medical, you're not signing him. But I totally agree, I hope the best for him, he's had a tough road (despite all the $$$) and would love to see him a) stay on the field and b) do well, especially in a league I have a rooting interest in like MLS.
Sorry, do we know this as a fact. Is there a source that tells us he has these knee issues? I know people on these boards have made comments to that effect, but do we have a record of someone saying he has a degenerative knee issues? Not saying you're wrong, but I just want to make sure we have facts before we make declarations of thus and so.
I mean, fair point, no, but looking at his official injury history: https://www.transfermarkt.us/bobby-wood/verletzungen/spieler/72519 and you see a definite pattern. Ligaments unfortunately don't just "get better" like muscles or bones do. It seems very unlikely, barring some cutting edge horse placenta advancements that his knees will ever again be 100%. But yea, conjecture on my part, I'll readily admit it
He also has played for extended periods with soreness in his knees which to me indicates a chronic issue vs acute. But, also conjecture.
Out with an injury: 📌 On the bench are: Heuer Fernandes, Mickel, Narey, Hunt, Wintzheimer, Onana, David, Heil, KwartengBobby Wood is missing against his old side due to knee problems. Get well soon, Bobby! 💪— HSV English (@HSV_English) February 5, 2021
Real Salt Lake should just cut and paste that for their fixture lineup tweets. It will save them some time.
"Knee problems". Maybe he's just not 100% of the player he was and isn't going to be that player again.
If Bobby Wood cannot be on the bench due to injury, and no one is following to see he's missing, is he really not there?
It looks like Bobby Wood scored a goal today for Hamburg, his first goal in club competition since the 2018-19 season. Goal for HSV! Vagnoman heads back into the middle and Wood is waiting to head in 👏🇺🇸⏱️ 89‘ | 🔴 3-2 🔷 | #FWKHSVpic.twitter.com/asQ2qaTJF7— HSV English (@HSV_English) February 21, 2021
Of course, I'd rather see Furth promoted so this result couldn't have been better. A loss and a Wood appearance and goal.

Wood on as part of a double sub where the right wing and guy playing like a #10 come off. Possible formation change. 87th minute, so not a lot of time.
