i just cant see a world where he gets back in the national team picture. He is buried away in a place that he really shouldnt be. He would be better served to come to the MLS and try to reinvent himself as an MLS strike as I think his time in Europe may be done.

if Jozy and Zardes can start (yet without scoring competitive goals), I can see a world where Wood can make a return. He's younger than both. He just needs to be 100% (physical and mentally).

The thing about Wood that is disconcerting is that a drop in quality of opponents has not helped him increase his effectiveness. From the missed PK, to the blow-out friendlies, Wood just has not been able to put together a consistent set of confident, effective minutes in games. It sounds like he is training well, or at least well enough. Not sure what has kept him from returning to an effective B2 level. Maybe he could use a change of scenery.

    Wood's salary increases every year
Under Dieter Hecking, Wood, who has been married to Dane Ditte since the summer of 2017, is now set to go up again. The HSV coach had the US attacker at his time as a coach in Mönchengladbach on the slip. Woods contract with HSV runs until 2021. Negotiated before the signing of the contract, that his salary increases annually. He would get 3.5 million euros in the Bundesliga. It should be 30 to 40 percent less for him in league two. With around two million euros salary, he is still one of the top earners at HSV.

He has (had) 1 hell of an agent. Scoring 17 goals in the 2 Bundesliga and scoring a few goals with the NT payed off big time.

HSV experiences injuries, Wood gets time and starts scoring again. That's all it would take. Not saying it is likely, but certainly a reasonable possibility.

Is Dane Ditte mentioned in LV's post above relevant to how Wood got his unusually good pay package? Who is she (other than being Wood's wife)?

I guess it was just extra padding since it was describing his background and journey to the present.

Maybe HSV offered him the family plan?
