I'll give you one guess as to what is the topic of this week's TCS column. http://www.mlsnet.com/content/03/tcs1120.html I love this little snippet: "Speaking of the Fire, loved the boos I heard at the LA Kings game at Staples Center Wednesday night when the team was announced as being in attendance"
"And that’s just the first wave. If MLS plays its cards right, you get another bump at the draft when he officially joins a team. Then his first game. Then his first goal. Then every time he goes to a new road city for the first time. Then when he gets his learner’s permit. Then when he dates an Olsen twin. Yes, Virginia, there will be silly hype. If MLS does its job, you will see Freddy everywhere. The rumored SUM soccer channel may switch to Freddy TV. MLS may sign Woody Harrelson to reprise his famous K-E-L-L-Y song from Cheers for F-R-E-D-D-Y in an upcoming commercial. And in DC? Yeah, get used to DC Adunited." Great, great article. Love to read his articles. Even love the fact that the Quakes are the underdogs by everyone's book. TCS, keep it coming! (P.S. You should move up north and cheer for a real team...)
Great piece as always. Sums up the Adu situation pretty well and fortunately gets around to analyzing the MLS Cup a bit.
"TCS SAYS: Okay, go ahead and put that right up there with a certain former commish’s infamous attendance prediction as far as top 10 quotes in MLS history that would later be regretted, yeah?" Which attendance prediction was that?
Commissioner Douglas Logan Mendoza predicted that MLS year 2 attendance would increase to 20,000 on average, IIRC. Instead it dropped from ~17,500 to ~14,500.
