BBC reporting the same, "Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel" too. Personally think that is a mistake and should have kept just Ruud (given his history) from the existing coaches until the end of the season. Penny pinching Ineos were never likely to keep multiple assistants on for long. Is what it is though. Just makes the decision in the summer to keep Erik on, replace his staff with two new guys (which made it look like they were following the Brighton succession model) that much more weirder and wasteful looking given will cost us on FFP given severance payments etc. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/ce31kjykk8vo 1856020263164428770 is not a valid tweet id
Why keep Ruud though? Aside from sentimental reasons. I mean, he's got his own team in place who truly understand how he wants to approach everything.
I would have liked him to stay on, but as James points out that is just sentimental - there are others like Fletcher who remain who are that bridge to the prior good united. Even if he did I think it would have only been to the end of the season
When joining mid-season, it would be helpful to keep someone who is familiar with the players. Not just strengths and weaknesses but personality types and all that.
I dont trust most of our players, i read they wanted Ruud to remain so im happy ruud is gone. He is a legend but we should not give an inch to these players to backstab or throw another manager under bus.
Right. Ruud hasnt even been here half a season, what real institutional knowledge does he have? This isnt the same United he left behind.
I was looking at squad knowlegement. Is Rasmus a confident or confidence player? Which player needs his off the field life going well to perform on the field? Those kinds of things.
if Amorim can make us sturdy defensively and optimise at least some of the pieces we have i'll be satisfied. anything else will be a bonus for this season
Especially with how some of our past players behave. Keep rolling my eyes at "Ferdinand Disagrees with Amorim's first decision", "Amorim isn't who Scholes wanted".....blah blah. Scholes, Neville, Keane, Ferdinand.....every Ex United player just helps with the media destabilization approach. Like I know it's their job and I know the media are always looking for a headline, but jesus christ back the club at least at this stage.
Doubling down, watched another StamanDave video (because I hate myself), he's a complete hack. He might know football, but he's jumping on a bandwagon that he knows shit all about and it irks me he doesn't even do his basic homework. Time to start my own drunkard youtube channel
BTW, condolences. United have taken a very beautiful thing from you and Portuguese football. I hope Sporting still win the league. Who is the new coaching staff.
João Pereira was promoted from running the b-team to his first full job. He's played for us 3 times in the past, so knows the club, and the b-team (ran u23s before that) was set up to mirror the first teams tactics, so he'll maintain Amorim's approach. It'll be tough having lost so much of the coaching back staff who could have supported him, but we're still 5-6 points clear in the league, and as long as we keep the squad together this winter he's got every chance to carry on and win it still
Interesting mix of fixtures to start with, some big games in there too. Arsenal and City both away in the league and Spurs in a knockout game. 1856717563566096455 is not a valid tweet id
And then it's: Dec 30 Newcastle H Jan 5 Liverpool A That's a rough 12 matches in your first 6 weeks. Arse, 115 & dippers all away in 1 one month span.
It’s not like they’re gonna fire him, and we’re already 14th. He just needs to aim for making them watchable…
Who knows how this will go. Wish nothing but the best, I’m optimistic, but I was with ETH as well and look how that turned out. At least Amorim comes in with a specifically distinct system. I really hope he sticks to a 3-4-3. I think it’ll get a lot out of our current squad.
I am quietly optimistic despite the feelings of deja vu. On reflection I believe there are grounds for optimism too. There are more defensive options this season (especially once Yoro is finally available and we get some LBs returning ). There are more CM options too and as a result we have been ok defending and controlling games for the most part. The main issue this season is in attack and a 3-4-3 will for sure result in significant changes to that area, in that as a minimum it should get some players closer to the #9. That alone should make the attack more productive. Hoping he sticks to 3-4-4. I am also fascinated if so to see how he dishes out the two #10 and two WB positions to these players. Then to see how they adapt. Will shake things up, so should be an interesting ride either way.
