Plus anything that gets us further away from the very technically lacking McFred is a good thing - even if this a bit more expensive than it should have been.
He's good, just nothing special. But in saying that, I wouldn't want him to try being the Roy of Rovers. Robbo and later Becks tried being that player, which they looked great doing, but the structure of the team suffered for it. I would be happy with him being what he's always been, someone who fills those odds and ends in the structure rather than the star player. Someone to press a little higher, defend a little deeper, recycle possession, pop up with an assist or goal (but not have that be his end all, be all like we see with Bruno), and who adjusts to our needs tactically according to how the game plays out.
I just want Tottenham level Erikson. Not super World Class but top 3rd of league at 8. We get that then we are cooking.

It also shows why people will think he’s “invisible” if the players around him squander the resultant move, or he doesn’t finish the chance off himself. Hopefully you won’t need to, but it might be worth remembering these videos a few times this season when people on twitter say he was quiet or didn’t do much. He’s about intensity, that sharpness in his pressing but also technically with his passing. Stuff like this is why Tuchel, Ten Hag, Klopp, Arteta etc all wanted him, why he helps teams that play like them regardless of whether he has high G+A output or is involved further back.

Fletcher was technically a very sound player plus his inexhaustible energy. Fletcher could do well because we had Scholes and Carrick as midfield, we need one of those badly.
Given Erik was having to play Fred or McT at times, then he is a big upgrade - far more technically capable player. Fred in particular given Erik played him higher. Sabitzer is also an interesting and closer comparison for Mount. Think he is an upgrade on him too. Having someone who can move the ball quickly and accurately and also offer a proper assist and goal threat is more than welcome having had to suffer what we have had to last few seasons. Certainly wont miss Fred putting a five yard pass out of play Plus his energy will certainly help, especially against those dynamic midfields where Cas / Eriksen looked too static last season.

Have not been impressed but it seems his best game today was in the second half after Ericsson came in to play eight and he was pushed up. I don't think he can play eight for us and I think his best position is 10 or maybe right wing so we need to look at that for him.
I expected him to not be great on the ball but I thought his pressing would be good and he’d chip in with some goal. But my god he is awful in front of net so far. He gets in decent positions and just chokes.
Pretty negative write up on his injury situations. Not like we didnt know / fear; - didnt start any of Chelsea last 18 (mostly owing to injury) - started just 9 games in the last year and completed 90 minutes just once - Casemiro / Mount midfield looked too open when we started it at the start of the season and contributed badly to our poor start - mostly not fit but has been overlooked even when was fit He is an expensive injury-prone backup to Casemiro / Mainoo at this point and maybe to Garnacho at RWF (esp if we offload Antony) . Hopefully when he does return and gets called upon he will have found some form like the rest of the team are showing signs of. Feels like a new Mata - ie a player to admire technically but who contributes infrequently so is better suited to the occasional sub appearance. Best we can do now is hope that his poor form early in the season was injury related and that when he returns he stays fit and shows his quality. Otherwise it’s looking like a huge mistake.
