Hi Everyone, I'm new to the forum. Interested in any updates on Taylor Twellmans recovery? In addition, does anyone else think he is getting robbed from the national team? I think he is the best young forward the U.S. has and they continue to play Mathis,McBride, etc. up top. Not taking anything away from those players, but I think Taylor gives us the best chance to win. Your thoughts?
TT's great but McBride has more than proven himself at the international level. Donovan has certainly shown he belongs too. Mathis has more of an upside than TT... and more of a downside too. TT will get his chance but I don't think he's been robbed of anything
Explain how Mathis has more upside when Twellman (he's 23)? I don't even see Mathis in the top scoring the past 2 years in the MLS. Also McBride will be 33/34 by the next World Cup and Twellman will be 26. I don't see how playing someone that is 33/34 in the next world cup is going to benefit us because he proved himslef years ago? If that were the case we should play Strks, Agoos, etc...
I dont believe Twellman will even breakthrough with the national team. He's the kind of player that proves himself over the course of a season, or tournament (i think Bruce would like TnT's play in the GC, or WC etc) but with the occasional friendly or qualifier, he wont have the oppurtunity to show his worth. I hope he is healthy, he's going to have some competition for a spot this year.
Maybe if JMM was healthy (like that will ever happen) and Twellman isn't healthy there could be a little bit of competition, but even that's very unlikely.
T&T is a hard-working, hard-nosed forward who can clean up the garbage with the best of them. He won't create for you but he is very heady and knows where to position himself for goals. I think he will definitely be involved in some training camps and be given a start along the way, but he needs to stay healthy. I know we are all rooting for Twellman to challenge the likes of McBride and Mathis and Wolf. This will only bring positives to the NATS.
I did not mean it like he would not be a starter, which he will certainly be. However, if he is not healthy, it will be easy for SN to look at the depth chart and see Noonan, JMM, Chris Brown, Darrio Fabbro?, and Clint Dempsey looking to see the field.
Kind of irrelevant, but I just found a great picture my dad took of Twellman leaping over the Rochester Rhinos goalie before scoring in the US Open Cup this year. I thought some of you might like to see it.
This is irrelevant too, but Twellman's birhtday is on Feb 29. Which mean he will finally have his birthday this year after waiting 4 years. Don't forget to celebrate!
anybody want to answer the original question posted-- how is he doing? i don't understand why everytime TT comes up on these boards, his legitimacy as a Nat team player comes up. moderator--isn't there a way you can just direct all the TT lovers and haters to prior threads. i thought the original question was good-- can anybody help?
Dr. Jay can probably answer best, but last I heard he was recovering fine from his various injuries and would be ready for training camp. Lee
I've been away for awhile so I don't have any updated info, but last I heard he was right on target to start training camp with the team.
I'd set my sights higher then Mathis and Wolff. Mathis is done and Wolff brings nothing to the table that Donovan doesn't bring and we don't need two of them. McHead is probably still in the mix though it is time to start looking past him for new blood
TT Latest update - medically cleared for full training. So far, so good. Foot feels good. Face all healed. Head still big.
Ttwellman looking good! Rarely seen photo of Twellman scoring a goal against rival high school team in St. Louis city championship game a few years ago. Courtesy of my cousin, MelvinRev.
Steve Nicol was asked yesterday about the relative health of his team, and that of JMM and TnT in particular. He said, "Aye...everyone's healthy." He again assured me that both were fine and ready to go. Regarding that pic: That boy's got an undeniable squash. His nugget's huge. I hope his mom had him via C-section. Ouch!!!
