He didn’t look great in his first couple appearances, but Venezia has added a lot of talent since then. I’d be curious to see how he looks with some better players around him. He can’t be worse than that Peretz guy that always comes on in midfield.

I mentioned Dabo, because it is a bit bizarre that if you were scouting young American talent in the last year to acquire- Tessmann wouldn't not be near the top of the list. An upcoming player, broke through at Dallas...but I don't recall much hoopla about his skillset and seems like there are at least 10-15 other young players in MLS who match his level.

This article agreed: ASN article: 20 young American players to watch in the 2021 MLS season (americansoccernow.com)

"In 2020, he mostly impressed in his 19 appearances for FC Dallas but also showed that there were a lot of areas he needed to grow"

Bradley did well, although Bradley's club peak was basically 1 good season at Roma...so given how young Tessmann is + where he plays now- I'd think that is not an unreachable objective at all. (no MNT talk here)

At a club level- I didn't see Bradley as that skilled (I know some here will disagree, but I do agree he had good instinct of where to be, was a workhorse and generally played with a good head. He was very professional and seemed to follow orders on the pitch well. That profile seems achievable for Tessmann as he advances in his career

Venezia makes waves with American imports to Italian league

Harry Kane may have dreams of becoming a kicker in American football, but Tessmann had a scholarship offer to kick for Clemson.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney, who is Tessmann’s godfather, offered him a scholarship after watching the Alabama native kick a 64-yard field goal at a Clemson summer camp in 2019. He had come in with no training as a kicker.

“I had to learn a bunch of things at the two-day camp,” Tessmann said. "After the camp, Dabo was like, ‘We can get you a scholarship to come kick.’ I committed then but obviously took a different path and signed pro with FC Dallas.”

As good as Busio's move is working out, I have the opposite feeling for Tessmann. He is at a critical age to get field time and my gut tells me he wound have been better served in the Dutch league or even Germany where his work rate/physicality might get him more starts.

Nonetheless, rooting for him to make a breakthrough this season and get more minutes. Venezia will be battling relegation all season

If Busio keeps his foot on the gas, Venezia will not be relegated.

Whenever Tessmann gets his chance, he'll have to make the most of it.

should've stayed at FC Dallas. Was way less tactically involved as Busio before the move. Needed way more reps IMO. Felt that way when the move was made too, felt too soon.

I didn’t think he was ready for this level. He’s too “average” at just about everything. He definitely has plenty of room for improvement which to your point won’t come if he isn’t getting playing time.

What's his competition look at Defense and in the Midfield?

Well they have this guy named Gianluca Busio. Sounds like a nailed-on Italian starter.

Can he play defense? Busio's solid start, the addition of Ampadu - he seems a little buried on the depth chart, like sixth or seventh choice for three spots. One would think Busio and Ampadu both continue to improve, so it might take major improvement in training to break through.

Maybe he was a "throw-in" as a package deal.

I wonder if they are trying to teach him to play CB? Just don't see him getting many minutes at the 8... and I don't think they will trust him to play CDM. He certainly has the size to play CB.
