When I saw the starting lineup for tonight's game, something stood out to me, and I was surprised. Then I started thinking, and I developed a theory. And at halftime, my theory was further supported by the substitution made. Let's start from the beginning: When I saw the lineup, I noticed that Peter Vermes was starting, no surprise there. But Chris Brunt was starting in the center with him. NOT Carey Talley, who was fully healthy and had no reason to be sitting out. Then, at halftime, when I saw Carey Talley run out onto the pitch, I figured he would be on for Chris Brunt. But lo' and Behold, Chris Brunt was still out there. And Peter Vermes was off the pitch. Anybody see where I'm going with this? Gansler refuses to play both Talley and Vermes on the pitch at the same time. He has all year. The two of them have not been on the pitch together all year. Tonight would have been the perfect time for both of them to play. Garcia (the other guy who has played center back all year) was out. There was no reason the backline couldn't have looked like this: Burns Talley Vermes Guttierez But Gansler didn't do it. The only explanations I have for this is that Talley and Vermes either don't get along, or they are both such dominating/commanding presences on the pitch that they wouldn't work well together. Anybody else have any thoughts? CHAD
I just made reference to this in another thread, but I agree. Why? I have no clue, but still, I dont get it. If anything Bob is "saving" Talley for Wednesday. But how the heck can we save someone when we are in such a slump? I think there have been some very poor managerial decisions of late, and this has to stop. Note: Chad, I got you your Woodchuck, you didnt show up, now i'm drinking it.
He's going to have to rest sometime. And would you rather take him out the next game and try to have Vermes or Brunt try to deal with Ruiz and co. on the road?
Yeah, Vermes told me a long time ago he'd give me his kit on his first home game back. Surprisingly he remembered and made a point to find me and give me it. Talley was just walking by and I asked him if Matt (ojsgillt) could have his kit. He just took it off the threw it to me. Pretty cool, too bad we got beat down 4-0.
I saw him looking for you as he came off at half time. (I was over in GA) It was pretty cool that he came back out with in his hand as headed for the bench in the second half. I was next to the guys you were talking to about going up to Milwaukee (across the tunnel).
Garcia, Vermes and Talley across the back aginst Mil for the first time this season. Goode only makes one save. The D stuffed everything. Is this our best lineup. Move Eddie up to left mid were he can move up . From what I have read, the back line was excellent in this game. How about it for the guys who were there?
Ok, am i trippin, high with out knowing it, or both simultaneoulsy when i cant recall that we have anyone on our team named eddie?
I was there. The Wizard back line were good, but you must consider the competition -- or rather the coaching of the competition. All the Rampage did for most of the game was send hopeful long balls over the top to either Wolyniec or Digital, which were inevitably intercepted by the the guys in the back or headed, almost as inevitably, to an open teammate with time and space. I though Talley played well matched up mostly on Wolyniec, -- though, as Mystics chanted so aptly, it was against a FIIIIIIERRRRRE....REEEEEJECT! But they all seemed to have a nice understanding back there. By the way, Garcia went forward to good effect on a number of occasions, and since he can handle the ball well, he should be encourage to do this.
