We're looking for input on the tailgate. Things were a bit disorganized because, well, I forgot our table, so we had to constantly shuffle things around. Mea maxima culpa. Questions: 1. Are people interested in continuing the keg? 2. Menu suggestions for next time? Burgers and dogs/sausages are 10 times easier and cheaper than almost anything else, so I'd like to stick with them as much as possible for the main course. There is a great deal of interest, however, in expanding side dishes. Pasta salad? Mac and cheese?
I, for one, thought the tailgate went just fine. As for your questions: 1) I don't drink, so I'm completely indifferent as to the keg. 2) The burgers were great (seared outside, juicy inside) and the dogs were OK ... maybe cheese for anyone who wants a burger upgrade?
Thanks for having the SEs there, we had fun (except for the result but we're pleased it wasn't the creaming we were expecting). I see you're trying to sort out the Zardmeister situation, good luck with that or get a big bat and put the fellow out of his misery. Hope some of you can come out for the May 17 game in DC (let us know if you are coming or if you need any info). You could make a bigger trip out of it and come for the May 14 DCU-Tottenham Hotspur game and stay on. Thanks again K
I'm up for continuing the kegs, and we can talk about changing up the beer type. I just refuse to drink light beer (maybe bud light, maybe). We drained the keg easily this time. Dave and I were chatting with the SE's about how they're sponsored by a local microbrewery, and they get a free keg each game in exchange for putting up a banner for the brewery. I'm going to talk to Chuck who owns Free State Brewery and Wheatfields (my fiance works for him) to see if he'll at least give us a discount. I mean, a keg costs roughly $64 to fill, so even half of that would be money. Also, I think we made a decent amount on the keg, and hopefully defrayed part or all of the loss on the food portion of the tailgate. Sam and I also talked about me supplying the meat at a steep discount (roughly $.79/#) since I'm now able to make hamburger patties in shop (I can also season the batch of beef before patties are made if we want), and can possibly get a case discount on brats and sausages. Everything else non-perishable I can get a 10% discount on. I wholeheartedly believe that the burgers have been better each time we've actually used fresh ground beef as oppossed to the frozen ones, so I think if we get a good reputation we can increase the #'s at the tailgate, and consequently the section/mystic members.
Amen on all accounts... Agreed. Those who were at the front end of the Tulsa tailgate got the fresh (and seasoned) burgers, and even though I was the cook, I noticed a difference... Definitely something to keep in mind...
This is a suggestion. Have two different Mystics each week be responsible for bringing 1 side dish a peice. Those two Mystics eat that week for free. How many Mystics are their? If it is 30 then it breaks down to one game a peice.
Matt's idea sounds like a cub scout meeting, but I think it's a downright brilliant idea. I think we should do this.
- about the keg - Was I the only one that noticed the Boulevard Brewing van near the tailgate? What about getting Boulevard - if they're interested in the Wizards - into "sponsoring" the Mystics tailgates. They could have the Boulevard van parked by the tailgate, and could possibly supply the Boulevard at a subsidized rate. It might be worth investigating.
For the SE tailgate Foggy Bottom Brewery are actually doing us a buy one keg get one free deal. As they sell Foggy Bottom in RFK we're trying to work out delivery to the tailgate area (one less thing to haul, then you just buy/rent the tap). K
