T&T Roster Goalkeepers 1.Clayton Ince, 2.Marvin Phillip, 3.Jan Michael Williams, Defenders 4.Keyeno Thomas, 5.Radanfah Abu Bakr, 6.Marvin Andrews, 7.Jlloyd Samuel, 8.Silvio Spann, 9.Keston Williams, Midfielders 10.Lyndon Andrews 11.Hughton Hector, 12.Densill Theobald, 13.Carlos Edwards, 14.Trent Noel, 15.Chris Birchall, 16.Keon Daniel, 17.Hayden Tinto, Forwards 18.Kerry Baptiste, 19.Kenwyne Jones, 20.Jason Scotland, 21.Bobby Zamora, 22.Cornell Glen OK.. quick question. How is Bobby Zamora's paperwork with FIFA approved but Jermaine Jones and Edgar Castillo have yet to be approved? Didn't Zamora file last week? Not that Jermaine Jones is healthy yet, but I am just wondering
I've got two words for you... Jack Warner. No but honestly, this is pretty surprising, not sure how that works.
I don't think it's a coincidence. Zamora and Jones should give plenty of CONCACAF defenses trouble... personally I think Gooch will eat somebody like Zamora up, but some of the smaller and slower defenses will be terrorized by them.
People generally knock Zamora as a slouch and specifically as a poor finisher of the ball, but he looked much sharper this pre-season than the end of the last campaign with Fulham and the simple fact is, an EPL quality striker in Concacaf will be amongst the best strikers in the region, regardless of peoples' opinions. Jones is quality too and yes I agree they will give quite a few defenses trouble.
And Jlloyd Samuel, too. Both players submitted forms and were approved for national team switches after repping England in the U-21 Championships years ago. But like it was mentioned, 'ol Jack Bastard probably speed up the process and rubberstamped the changes as quickly and as under-the-table as he could.
This was my fear - Zamora and Samuel will play against the US but not against a team like Mexico in the final game of the Hex when TnT are already eliminated. Thus, we get them at their best (or even better than they've been) and Mexico plays them once they've mailed it in.
Alvarez actually got approved for the match vs. T&T but I believe his papers were filed earlier than Jones, and certainly before Castillo, his was not as automatic as the T&T players.
Oh I agree about Zamora. I'm just saying that the big, not-so-technical strikers are usually the ones that Gooch handles easily. I think Zamora's playing type is much less threatening than a player of possibly lower quality, but who has a low center of gravity and can change direction quickly. Zamora's fast, but he doesn't cut or change direction very often. This is right. I think Alvarez got approved so early because he had actually started the process before the rule change, but got it rejected. So they just used his previous date or something. They put him to the top of the list because he wanted to do it before the flood of players like our TnT duo.
Well Bshredder, didn't Leo Beenhakker attempt to call up Bobby Zamora before the 2006 World Cup? For some reason, I always thought Zamora was a T&T player who simply turned down his country over and over again....Isn't his dad from Trinidad? Didn't he already have a T&T passport? And I do not think this U21 appearances for England were in any tournaments, so he wasn't cap-tied to England even before the rules change. Of course, while I sense Jack Warner shennanigans here (Not approving Jones until after T&T plays the US), there doesn't seem to be nothing really illegal about what T&T did here, since Zamora was never captied to England. But don't get me wrong, if Zamora's Grandfather was from T&T instead of his father and his England appearances were in a tournament, I would be screaming bloody murder.
Thanks for the info Is it true that Zamora only filed in the last week or two?? I know he only recently got his T&T passport this is first rate bull$hit. Again, the USA wouldn't be able to use Jermaine Jones because he is injured and I know Castillo only recently filed to switch But the waiting process to switch was clearly stepped up for T&T and to me that is cheating. Nothing will get done about this.. let's just beat them anyway
I think we'd actually try to get Gooch matched up with Kenwyne Jones, leaving Boca or DeMerit to deal with Zamora. When you think about it........Jason Scotland is also now in the premiership with Wigan. I saw him get into the game last time I saw Wigan. TT have 3 premiership strikers.......pretty good. TT have always had good attacking options............and it's always defense/goalkeeping that lets them down. I mean, the goalkeeping position here is a no-contest. This particular generation of soca warriors also seems fairly weak in the center of midfield......which is one of our strengths. One of our goals should be to stop Carlos Edwards from sending in crosses from the wings to Kenwyne.......because I can't see them beating us thru the middle. At the Chicago game, we had Beasley at left back, and Carlos beat him several times........only for the cross to go awry. But that's how they were trying to attack us. I don't think we can put Boca over there due to the difference in pace between him and Edwards. I guess we'll go with Bornstein.....or maybe Spector. Spector can be beaten with pace, but he usually has pretty good positioning to make up for it. We saw that in the Confed Cup against much better attackers than we'll see in TT.
Kenwyne Jones may be a decent striker in the Premier League, but he can't score to save his life when playing for T&T. 4 goals in 41 games is a miserable strike rate.
That's because their Midfield & Defense is really poor... their only really good midfielder is Carlos Edwards. They do have a very good strike force with Dwight Yorke, Jason Scotland(EPL), Stern John, Cornell Glen, Bobby Zamora and Kenwyne Jones. They might as well play 5-2-3 with midfielders being Carlos Edwards and Dwight Yorke with the 3 EPL strikers up top.
Considering that Zamora filed to play for Warnerland, it doesn't really surprise that it was expedited, does it? I have nothing against the Soca Warriors, they play an honest game--and generally a pretty lively one, too--on the field (certainly by CONCACAF standards!), but beating the living crap out of Corrupt Jack's fiefdom is always a delight. We all know that Jones is still out with injury for this one anyhow, but how long exactly does it take to approve this frickin' form? How long did it take Subotic? He was available for the first match Serbia had scheduled him to take part in.
Read the recent ESPN article on Castillo and Jones's paperwork!!!! Find it yourself. Alvarez got his approved early because he had already tried to switch to El Salvador. That is probably why J. Lloyd Samuel and Bobby Zamora's were approved early. They already tried to switch.
Well Stern John has scored 69 goals in 109 internationals playing in front of T&T's poor midfield. I think it's more a case of certain players not being suited for the international game.
I did read that article.. But there is no indication that Zamora and Samuel tried to switch earlier. All reports indicate they only made their decision a week or two ago when they received their passports. If they wanted to switch earlier, they would have gotten their passports long ago. In that article, it says it takes around 60 days to approve of a switch. This whole thing with Zamora and Samuel is really fishy
Alvarez had already tried filed previously to change prior to the new rule, so that apparently sped up the process.

On a more serious note, hopefully Dempsey can give insight to the rest of the guys regarding Zamora's habits, etc. since he's played with him so much at Fulham.
