How serious is his loss to the Swiss team? I seem to remember Ludociv was pretty good anyway, surely the team will not be affected much.
I think that Magnin is a serviceable replacement. I think that Spycher adds a little more to the team than Magnin, but the this position is the least of the Swiss worries.
dunno whether Ziegler or Spycher would have played on this position now, dunno whether Hitzfeld will choose Ziegler, Magnin or Shaqiri. Spycher used to be the defensive version of Magnin. Ziegler and Shaqiri more often played in midfield. And Shaqiri more often on the right side anyway but it's not a position to worry about too much
Toko wants to play for Switzerland and besides just renewed his contract with GC. A hot prospect to keep in mind for the future
Shame that Spycher is now out of the equation. I really rated him (well above Magnin) from a defensive perspective. As for Huggel: He just gives me the impression of invariably committing fouls (and consequential free-kicks) in 'dangerous areas'.....but I'm happy to be proved wrong. I fully expect most of the Swiss attacking threats to come via Barnetta and Lichtsteiner......and Hakan Yakin in his role as 'super sub'? But as ever, Hopp Schwiiz!.....and hope for the best.
Which injury is that? Last I heard, he'd recovered from his previous one....but there's plenty of time for him (and assorted others) to pick up an injury in a friendly/training. Chile needn't worry too much.
I am a bit...after all our defense is one of the weakest out there, specially on the aerial game...in complete contrast to our strikers.
Streller might be left behind due to injury. He is not able to train correctly due to an injury picked up on 5 May against Aarau. If he is dropped, the replacement would be either Albert Bunjaku or Nassim Ben Khalifa.
Here are how the additional payments will work: For each point earned 10,000 CHF for every player who plays that day and the 2nd keeper. If the team reaches the quarterfinals, each player will recieve $45,000.
Streller is out injured - the substitute will be known tomorrow Barnetta, Behrami and Von Bergen also with light problems... Barnetta apparently has light hip problems, Von Bergen back problems.
Chile won their test match against Sambia 3-0 Suazo was out injured. However I expect them very strong at the WC... On the swiss side, Hitzfeld has chosen the starting XI already. Benaglio; Lichtsteiner, Senderos, Grichting, Ziegler; Behrami, Huggel, Inler, Barnetta; Frei, Nkufo expect Hitzfeld to announce Bunjaku as replacement for Streller although about 70% of the people would prefer Ben Khalifa. Bunjaku has already played under Hitzfeld and Hitzfeld said it was a difficult choice not to pick him in first instance. And Ben Khalifa made it in the last 24hrs in the choice of the 7 reserve players instead of Margairaz. However, Ben Khalifas shape at the end of the season was much better than Bunjaku's. And Ben Khalifa is without complexes, neither is the more experienced Bunjaku, tough.
Ben Khalifa played last night in the M21 match against Turkey. From the reports that I read, I could not get the match here in the US, he played OK. Not great or poor.
we'll know the answer in 10mins... Hope it's Ben Khalifa as he is in good shape and Tunisia are also after him. Yakin and Derdyiok had also little problems in training this morning
Blick, Tagesanzeiger, 20mins and others asked the readers who they want in all, 65% to 70% were for Ben Khalifa only 30% to 35% for Bunjaku
Darn. Here was a oppourtunity to cap-tie one of the most exciting attacking players the Swiss have developed. Lets hope that he gets called up for the first Euro qualifyer. That being said, Bunjaku is a good player and I hope that he pairs well with Frei. The fact that Ben Khalifa is even being mentioned is a credit to him, and the Youth System of the Swiss. Plus it allows Ben Khalifa to travel to Georgia to help the Swiss win their group this sunday.
I suppose 0% went for Streller as a striker in the first place! I don't wish ill on any Swiss player (or person) but perhaps it's best that Streller is injured pre-tournament rather than him getting injured 'just putting his jersey on' before the match against Spain. Only leaves Frei, NKufo, Behrami + A.N.Others to pick up an injury before June 16th I suppose. Hitzfeld's 'replacements' inspire me more than his original squad, and besides, I thought that Bunjaku would be a 'first choice' (certainly ahead of Streller) anyway. Streller is *always* injured/useless. Sorry.
Any chance that the Swiss could let Streller play for Tunisia...And the Swiss get to keep Ben Khalifa? No, thought not. One is a pacey, skillful, promising youngster - the other is an old crock with no ball control or heading ability who consistently fouls in the opposition penalty area. I'm not saying which is which. Only Hitzfeld knows the answer to that one!
Suazo is fine. According to Bielsa he was good to play against Zambia, but Bielsa decided not to rush him. He might play against N.Ireland on Sunday... Our GK Bravo is also back from injury and played great against Zambia. Defensive Mid Estrada and bench striker Paredes are also back but they still look too stiff and need more playing time under their belt.
well, I wouldn't have liked Streller to take a penalty as penalty shootouts are nothing for the swiss ... I'd feel more comfortable when the players with foreign origins step up to take them except Frei... But Streller was in quite good shape, tough. But Bunjaku can be more deadly in the finished and go on one on ones... Ben Khalifa told Hitzfeld he would like to play for the swiss team later on Hope he gets a call if another attacking player is out. For the rest, it looks like von Bergen might be out as well and would need to be replaced by Affolter. Also, not the worst of changes... and so far no starting XI injuries Hope, Barnetta, Behrami, Yakin and Derdyiok are fit.
Let's face it; Every Euro/World Cup the Swiss seem to suffer from injuries, inappropriate selections, and missed penalties/'open goals' Best just to be thankful that 'we' have made the Finals.....and hope for the best.
