FC Basel: CL group phase (pot 3 or 4) FC Zürich: CL 3rd Qualifying Round for Non-Champions - unseeded: Possible opponents: Benfica Por 81.319 Dinamo Kiev Ukr 60.776 Panathinaikos Gre 57.833 FC Twente Enschede Ned 41.025 Standard Liège Bel 32.400 Young Boys: EL 3rd Qualifying Round - seeded, but could face teams like Gaziantepspor, Dundee United, Hajduk or Maccabi Tel-Aviv. Better would be Levadia Tallinn or Sligo Rovers for example Sion: EL 4th Qualifying Round or 2nd Qualifying Round Xamax: maybe EL 4th Qualifying Round Thun: maybe EL 2nd Qualifying Round whoever plays the 2nd and 4th qualifying round would be seeded in the 2nd qualifying round but unseeded in the 4th round. But contrary to Thun, Sion would be seeded in a possible 3rd qualifying round
Re: Swiss teams in Europe 2011/12 I would take a match-up for YB with Dundee. I think that FCZ is in for difficult draw. The key will be how quickly the team can gel with all of the changes that will be coming. Obviously Benefica or Kyiv would be bad news. Thun will probatly end up with Vaduz or someone from Andorra the first round.
Re: Swiss teams in Europe 2011/12 I don't see Thun and Sion (without playing at Tourbillon) going far in the Europa league. So, I hope FCZ and YB win lots of points. On the one hand, they need it for their own coefficients to be seeded instead unseeded in future years. On the other hands, the swiss coefficient needs their points as well. Then Basel are already qualified for the Champions League and can wait and see.
Re: Swiss teams in Europe 2011/12 FC Thun gets either Birkirkara of Malta or Vllaznia Shkodër of Albania. The away match will be 14 July and the match at the Stade de Suisse will be 21 July.
Re: Swiss teams in Europe 2011/12 the first round starts today draw for 3rd qualifying round Europa League (Thun, YB) will be on July 15 btw as well as the draw for 3rd qualifying round Champions League (Zurich)
Re: Swiss teams in Europe 2011/12 Forgive me if I reminisce again. Although the Hardturm was the first Swiss ground that I watched football at, the Stade de Tourbillon was my favourite (second only to Xamax's) ground. It's a shame they've had to 'move' I remember when a young Georges Bregy ran riot from midfield against FC St. Gallen back in the early 80's. He was a goal-scoring midfielder par excellence. Something like 100 goals in 200 league games for FC Sion. I'm sure the rest of you don't need any explanation about the atmosphere and 'surrounds' of the club deep in Valais. .....And to think some english peeps find Old Trafford/Stamford Bridge/The Emirates atmospheric? Anyway, let's hope the Swiss clubs progress far enough to get on English TV - just as YBB did last season.
Re: Swiss teams in Europe 2011/12 if CC would find an agreement with the city of Sion, the Tourbillon could made Europa league fit quite easily, but he just does not want to... besides, Sion was banned from transfers this summer by Fifa but has been doing transfers nevertheless considering they're allowed to, so they would appeal any decision of the new players not being qualified

Re: Swiss teams in Europe 2011/12 YB vs Westerlo or Turku probably two Swiss-Belgium fights for 13th place in the EL
Re: Swiss teams in Europe 2011/12 I will take this result away for the first match. Now lets see a victory in CH!
Re: Swiss teams in Europe 2011/12 I like the idea of a head to head match with teams from Belgium. This would allow either team to eliminate a team from the opposing federation.
Re: Swiss teams in Europe 2011/12 Of the possible foes, this was a good one to get. Twente or Benfica would have been really bad.
Re: Swiss teams in Europe 2011/12 Thun not doing well, they are down 0-1 in the 54'. The must score twice to advance.
Re: Swiss teams in Europe 2011/12 Thun gave away tickets to have their new stadium full for the first official match. Looks like a major embarassment right now...
