It seems those years should be a "sweet spot" for talent on US Nat team...amazingly, most all the players from 2002 (the good ones!) will be at/near top of their game still (yes, quite a few starting backside..but still right there) Mastro, Reyna, O'Brien, Friedel/Keller, Mathis will be on backside, but still likely top league Europe caliber... By then, some of our talented kids (Cooper, Buddle, Whitbread, Adu, Szletla (sp?). Casey, Johnson, Clark, Gibbs etc will have some years experience (at least 1 or 2) in top leagues, and most/all will likely be solid top-league performers, maybe stars even... And of course, Landon, Beasley, Timmy, Boca etc. will all be hitting your prime... In fact, about the only guys who I think maybe be a year/2 past still effective in 2008 will be McBride and maybe Pope (and we appear deep at both those spots, great talent coming up)....pretty remarkable.... We may be 5 deep with quality at some positions...wow.... Too bad 2008 is not World Cup year....even though I think WC 2010 will be quite, quite good, and place extremely well...they may wind up not as talented AND deep as the 2008 version.....
Donvan and Beasley could still be around in 2014. Tim Howard especially could still be around in 2014. Bobby Convey is two years younger than everyone else, so he'll be around... By 2014 we could have some three time world cup vets in the squad.
2010 is loaded, no doubt...but we will lose Keller (and maybe Friedel), Reyna, Mathis, Mastro Pope etc in the 2 year run-up to 2010...in other words, some pretty talented, experienced folks... 2007/2008 we likely still will see those guys in good form AND the newbies will be studs (and pushing them)...yowza.... Of course, some of those group (Reyna?) may cash it in after 2006...can you imagine having the luxury of having such a fine player or 2...and not really needing him anymore (2008)?
