Two late goals were the icing on the cake as Ajax had a relatively easy go of things against Vitesse to move on in the Beker. Babel got the game winner in the first half and Ajax pressed well against a team that could not generate much of any offense.

    Player Ratings:

Onana (7) - didn't have any difficult saves to make but positioned himself well on all the free kicks
Tagliafico (7) - decent enough going forward and defending
Martinez (7) - solid game in the back and moved to the MF when Blind made a return to the pitch after a long lay off
Alvarez (7) - solid in the back and pushed forward when the opportunity was there
Dest (7) - good game by the rumored Bayern transfer [IMG]
Eiting (6.5) - some mediocre passing in the first half with a much better second
Gravenberch (6.5) - took his shot on goal very well but his general field play was just a bit above average
van de Beek (6.5) - got things started on the match winning goal
    Tadic (6.5) - a steady shift
Traore (6.5) - worked hard and had a half chance on goal but gave a great lay off to Babel
Babel (7) - solid game with some good touches
Blind (NR) - good to see him back playing
Ziyech (NR) - back from injury with a short spell on the pitch
Hunelaar (NR) - should have scored but the ball came off the post.

RKC Waalwijk at home this Sunday

Looks like a deal is real close for Ziyech to join Chelsea next season for 45m euro

Yeah it's a done deal now. Wish he would have gone to a better club. Bummed he is going but it was time. He's been so much better than everyone else in the Netherlands this year.

Ajax sign Antony, a 19-year old winger, from Sao Paolo... most expensive signing in Eredivisie history.

A routine 3-0 win over bottom of the table RKC Waalwijk. Ajax had most of the control in the opponents area and probably should have done a better job of finishing chances. The defense was seldom tested.

    Player Ratings:

Onana (6.5) - routine game but his spilled save in the final minute of play was a bit fortunate as there was no lurking attacker
Tagliafico (6.5) - not much defending to do
Martinez (7) - good match splitting time between CD and MF
Alavarez (7) - solid shift but still needs to be quicker in his decision making
Dest (7) - another good game going forward with some nice penetration
Eiting (6.5) - decent but not overwhelming performance
van de Beek (7.5) - best player on the pitch constantly beating the defense
Ziyech (7) - solid half of football and subbed off as a precaution
Babel (7) - good on the ball for him and seldom troubled by any defender
Traore (7) - made a nice run to tap in the second goal and is looking better with each match
Tadic (7) - calm with the PK that was the match winner
Blind (6.5) - solid half of football
Huntelaar (6) - caught off sides twice on runs and despite a couple of poor finishes did get the third goal
Ekellenkamp (NR) - on for a short time near the end but made a couple of very good plays in the box

Fixture congestion is coming up as Ajax are still in contention on three fronts. Utrecht match has to be rescheduled and they will face them again in the Beker semifinals. A trip to Spain to take on a tough Getafe team this coming Thursday. I watched the Barcelona match where Getafe lost 2-1. Getafe employ a lot of good pressure but can be beaten with long balls over the top. Ajax have to be defensively sound which may be a problem without Onana.

I seriously doubt they watched the match.

If we manage to get something from this game with this line up we'll be the luckiest team around. Whatever, good luck.

Man... Getafe is like the worse version of Valencia. Its just endless fouls and diving to break up this game. What has happned to the Spanish teams?

Its working though... we have no answer to it with or broken attack. We need a goal, even just 1 would be huge.

Man it seems like Ziyech and Tadic are misplacing every attempted ball in the final third. Just so many passes to the keeper with too much power.

And WOW what a mess up by Babel on that header! So much space for two ajax players!

Tadic has been so wasteful tonight (and lots of the season).

He's not great as a RW. Much better as a 10, 9, LW. Ten Hag didn't put the team in a position to do well tonight.

******** you Schuurs, you're kidding me. What kind of idiotic pass was that? Can't even complete a simple pass allowing that counter to happen? Jesus our whole team was SO SHIT. Tadic so wasteful, Babel so wasteful (although at least he tried), Ziyech couldn't do anything.

Man, Getafe is the anti-Ajax in every way. Imagine being a Getafe fan and having to watch this shit every game? Just diving and feigning injury non stop since the first moment.

We were still in an ok position, but that gifted goal by Schuurs really ********ed us.

ten Hag's decisions tonight were absolutely terrible. Why the hell didn't he change the midfield? Why bring on Shuurs at CB late in a tight match? Bizarre.

Babel is just done. He is so slow and makes so many dumb decisions. Ziyech looked like he could care less and his head is already with Chelsea. Tadic has been poor all year imo. Had an incredible year last year but just hasn't been able to come close to that.

Schuurs with such a stupid decision at the end there. No idea what he was doing, but no one wanted to move and try and create lanes out there. Just a really lazy performance.

Just not enough creativity in this team. Can't build up from the back with guys like Martinez and Alvarez.

Really missed Promes pace down the wings tonight

This year Schuurs has played the total of 60 minutes in competitive games for Ajax and tonight he had to play in a high stake ECT game. Of course he is prone to mistakes. This isn't the way to develop a player. How Alvarez, Martinez, Babel end up being Ajax players really beats me. Ziyech and Tadic didn't have a useful move the entire game. Well this pretty much sums it up. On another note teams like Getafe are disgrace to football.

Martinez is not good enough technically to play MF for Ajax. Alvarez isn't good enough period.

I have no clue why ten Hag did 2 like for like subs. Ajax didn't have a shot until late in the match and he at not point changed the tactics. Absolute insanity.

  22. Only saw the last ten minutes in which Dest backpassed a ball into the Ajax box to two Getafe players around 87th minute iirc and was saved by Varela who dived on the ball before those two could get a hold on it. Schuurs with a pass with too little speed intercepted and in the counter Dest unlucky directing the ball the other way Varela was diving to.

Don't worry, ten Hag didn't have either.
