WOW WHAT A CONCEPT! It nice to SAY it, but can you actually DO IT? Im not saying we should just take whatever the team gives us, we have the right to complain and bitch. But when it comes down to it YOU gotta SUPPORT YOUR TEAM.
wahoo Well, you know, I was there on day one and I am here today. I will always support the MetroStars. I will buy season tickets if they build the stadium even though I won't even make half the games. I will purchase the merchandise. I will complain here and be a missionary to all that will listen. But today... today I reserve the right to just bow my head and turn away.
Real supporters don't whine, not about wins and losses anyway. I'll be cheering for Mr. Pants next week and if the Metro win the game those pants should go into the Metro Hall of Fame.
There's a huge difference between supporting a team that plays with passion and has players who can read each other, then with a team whose players have only been bickering and yelling at each other. It disgusts me that our Metros argue and argue. At first, I found it amusing when Clint would scream a few words to Rodrigo. But now, it's not only a few words and it's not only Clint. Our team is falling apart. That prevents us from playing a game successfully. Yelling at each other never encourages anyone to play harder and stronger. It makes you feel like crap; that's what we used to do in Rec soccer, when I was 11. I don't want to seem like a traitor, because I'm not. I was a Metro fan back when they first started. But, I lost that connection with the Metros for a couple of years until this year. What a great year to become a rejuvenated MetroFan. I mean, yeah, it's great for me. But to see your favorite team slowly unfold into something close to shambles isnt very inviting. Not to be Benedict Arnold, but watch a Quakes game, and you can easily see how different those players act towards each other. That's why they're such a solid team, their players get along, allowing them to trust and respect each other. Right now, our Metros lack that trust that is needed to be cohesively strong. It's not entirely OZzy's fault. The players, cough, Diallo, need to grow up a little. When Big Mamma throws a hissy-fit, pull him out of the game. OZ should not let them walk all over him. They need a good smacking, or at least a good lecture, that he deserves respect as their coach, and that they should respect each other. But, it's sad that they're grown men and that this should even have to be fathomed. In any case, I will try to support the MetroStars, but with their attitude, they shouldnt expect a place in the playoffs. Bad attitudes do not equate with good Sportmanship nor victories . However corny it may sound.
Then that means youre only a fan when things are good. Im not saying that we are playing well, we're not. We should let the players, OZ, and NICK, all know that they are bunch of ass-holes that are ruining OUR team. That doesnt mean we all go home and stop caring about Metro untill changes are made. If you CARE about the team then you'll DO something about it. If you dont care then you stay home and do nothing. Dont take it personally when someone says youre not a fan. At the same time when the team plays they need to be HELPED and PUSHED into winning. We need to support them and let them know we are there watching them. IF they lose a game, we also let them hear it.
My team stinks, plays like crap, but still love them. Its easy to be a fan when you win, when you lose you see the real fans... Go Metro
I'm a metro till the end, but I wish the players showed us the love we showed them by playing hard & smart. Mathis' red card play Saturday makes me believe that he is mildly retarded.
Come on people. Like we as Metro supporters don't hit rock bottom almost every year (sometimes twice). And every year we come back to show our support. And give MFO our money again. What's transpiring now is nothing compared to what we've gone through before. We'll tough it out, and Metro will too. And when we win, whether this year or a few seasons down the road, it will be that much sweeter for those that stayed true. Whether or not you want to continue giving your money to Metro for the privilege of watching supersize egos whine to each other in front of an incompetent coach is your own personal decision. Just don't stop caring, cause you'll feel like an a$$ when we DO win the cup.
metrocorazon and everyone else--- as for not supporting my team and everything else you said...well let me say... I do , do a lot , as much as I can for the team. My main goal is the campaign for the Harrison stadium. My dad's cousin works in the State House, and I've been pushing her to do stuff. She gives me information and then I work with that. But, it's a long process and the idea for the stadium is taking time down there in Trenton. I go to every home game I can, and go there with high hopes. Out of all my family and friends who support the MetroStars, I am by far the biggest fan, because I have an optimistic mind. After the game where we lost 3-2 to the Fire (July 13th), I didn't go home all like, "ew i hate the metrostars and i'm never coming to another game again", I went home hopeful for the next game, and the game after that. When you lose sleep over a team, (watching tape delayed games), then isn't that a fan? I am not just a fan when they're good, because that's ridiculous. The Italian National team was very, very, very upsetting this World Cup, but I still love the Azzurri. Some people cannot afford to be "big-ass" supporters all the time. So don't try telling me what kind of fan I am, because you clearly do not know me. If that's what you perceived from my earlier post, then too bad. I am trying to understand what you are saying, but my earlier post was just saying that I think it's horrible how our players do not get along, for some of the time. This year, I decided to become a bigger MetroFan because I'm dissapointed in myself because I lost the team for a couple of years. I will try to pull through with the MetroStars now through thick and thin. I am trying to actually get a job there or some volunteer work. And I do care, and by posting that post from before, shows that I care about our players, because I want them to get along. Winning isn't everything, it's about having fun, but how can you be having fun when all you do is yell at each other? And yes, OZ is an idiot, I never liked him or the decisions he has made. I love the MetroStars, and hopefully, I can buy at least half-season tickets, however my job situation turns out by next season. people, and Serg... it's no great accomplishment to be a die-hard supporter for a sports team. There is nothing to be proud about. You have not reached some sort of high-ranking status. You have nothing to be proud about. It is not a status symbol. You do it because it's FUN. You are part of a supporters club. You support your team. We all have to assume that we support the club because it's fun. Now when the team plays like crap, being part of a supporters club can still be fun because you're around friends. Drinking with buddies. Sharing times with friends. That's all good. But you know what? when you're not part of that supporters club, and you watch on TV, or go sit in the stadium with a bunch of friends who you're trying desperately to convince that the Metros and soccer is cool, and you walk out of the stadium, or switch off the TV, and are depressed, disappointed, or lately, disgusted, well guess what... it's NOT fun. It sucks. If you go watch a movie and you think it sucks, you don't go back to see it. Again, I've been an ardent supporter of the Metros since day one. I'm still an ardent supporter of the Metros. That's why I won't be watching the Revs game. Why? Because that's not the Metros out there. I started to watch the Metros because it was fun to do so and I love soccer. Hell, back when we sucked, it was at least fun to watch the DC/Metro battles. The players at least cared about those games. This version of the team makes me sick. Why do I want to punch 50% of our present team in the face? I don't want to switch off the TV and feel like i want to kick the dog. Being a long time supporter of metro, I know whats going to happen when we play the Revs. I don't want to feel like crap YET AGAIN. And folks, if I didn't care about the team ALOT, I WOULDN'T feel like crap... If i didn't care, i would just be indifferent. Trouble is, I do care... but I'm not going to set myself for getting myself pissed off watching a bunch of ****heads run around the field yelling at each other in a game that I know they will not win. There's nothing fun in that. It kills what supporting a soccer team should be... FUN. Suffering along with your team does not make you a 'great supporter'. It just means you're suffering. Do they care about you that much? Hell no. Most of them probably look up at 101 and laugh to themselves at the sight of you. Support the shield. Don't support the ****heads that wear it because they're being paid to do so. Mathis obviously doesn't care about the shield anymore. He wants to be in Europe. Kick his hick ass to the curb. Diallo obviously is a selfish bastard. But we knew that already, didn't we? Does Tab care about the team, or does he step it up when he feels like it? This is the team you support. They are bitching and complaining like a bunch of babies. That's not my Metros. I'm not going to take a bus to New England and show them my support because I care, because your support means nothing to them. If you get a kick out of heading up there and cheering, fine. But don't think that your are supporting the MetroStars. If you really CARED about the METROSTARS, not the team on the field, but the METROSTARS as your local soccer club, you'd be too disgusted to even get on the bus, or turn on the TV. It's like walking back to your old neighborhood which you loved as a child, and seeing the ****hole it's turned into. You just can't be there anymore. It hurts too much to see it in that condition. But you'll always love the place anyways. Again, your support means nothing. You support your family members if they are hurting. They will respond to your support and care. The MetroStars are a soccer club. To them, your support means nothing. Somewhere inside, you know that. You stand and cheer because it's fun to do so. If you'll have fun standing and cheering and getting high at New England, go right ahead. I wouldn't have fun up there, because I'd be the only sober one, and would actually pay attention to whats going on on the field. But I already know whats going to go on on the field. So i'm not going, nor am I even going to watch them on TV. Why? Because I don't like feeling like **** because I've wasted two hours of my time, and alot of my passion on a team that doesn't even care about itself anymore. FUN, people. Fun. That's why you got into this in the first place. Is supporting the team still fun now? ...and I don't want to hear anything about me jumping off the bandwagon, or not being a die hard Metro fan. The Metros could lose every single game, but as long as they tried their best, I would still love them. And so would you. This cast is selfish, and lack heart. Hell, Rhett Harty sucked, but at least tried. That's why we all loved him. Savarese had a heart bigger than Diallo's fat head. That's why we loved him. Did he suck? sure. Did he try his best, and get rewarded ever other game? sure. Watching Savarese and Harty was enjoyable. It was fun. Because THEY CARED. Were we anywheres close to winning a championship when they played? Hell no. But I had 100 times more fun with them than i'm having now. I'm glad they've moved on so I don't have to twist up my positive memories of them with the crap that's on the field now.
SO in other words you only support WINNING teams and when thing are all rosey... IF you CARED you'll DO something about it. I dont like it anymore than you do. I didnt realize that sticking by my team means becoming a "super" supporter, I thought thats just what fans do. I guess some people only care if the team is winning. If you dont like the way things are DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Go to the stadium and tell Mathis to go stick his fooking mohawk up his ass, tell OZ to go to hell. This is YOUR team, take it BACK!!!! A fan is in it for the long haul, whether loss or win. A bandwagoner likes a team because it is doing well. I certainly am not a bandwagoner. I'm a fan, but in our case now, it goes beyond losses and wins. It's a matter of being completely disgusted at what I see. If you say I'm not a Metro fan for the opinion i have stated, then I consider it a compliment. I wouldn't want to be associated with the **** that I see out there now. like what, yell at the players and tell them to get better? Yell at them and tell them they suck so they can give me the finger? they already know they suck. They don't need me screaming from the rafters to tell them something they already know. Should I call up Nick and tell him to do a better job so he can give me the standard response he gives every fan? Call him up and tell him he sucks and get hung up on? Call up AEG? Actually, that's a good idea. I could even make an appointment to see him. Have a flow chart ready to demonstrate my feelings towards how the team he cares so much about is falling apart. Because he watches every game you know. Fans go to the games to have fun. When it's no more fun to go, they don't show up. A so-called 'super fan' is blind to the state of the team, and will support it no matter what. Oh sure, he'll complain that the team sucks, but will still watch them anyways. It's called the Red Sox Syndrome. After awhile, you just get used to the losing and the suffering and consider it part of the event. The 'super-fan' likes being part of something... and organization... a supporters club. Likes to be identified with something larger than him or herself. I like that myself, but I can't be blind to the state of the team presently, and still support what i see. Yelling would just give me a sore throat. I like my nice healthy throught as it is. So lets see. I go to the game, get aggrevated, and get MORE aggrevated since I'm finding myself yelling at the coach and players. I'd rather spend my night at the movies watching something that will make me smile and/or laugh or (gasp) inspire me, like what a soccer team can do. AEG doesn't care. He buys little clubs around the world either as a hobby, or because he sees an investment opportunity. MLS thinks Nick is a compitent and fiery GM, and will look past all his 'shortcomings' - such as him being a 5th grade bully in an overweight monkey's body - and look at the larger picture: the fact that once he was brought in, the Metros got better. I would hope coming to games doesn't define one's status as a fan or not, or else all those who couldn't afford the $10 parking and the price of a ticket wouldn't be a fan. Some, like my father, who got used to the standard of play in northern Spain, think the $10 parking and price of a ticket is outrageous for the product on the field. I still drag the family along for some games though. I'm a fan, you see. I guess not a 101 kind of fan, but rather one that has watched every game on TV since year one and feels he cares just as much as those who go to the game.

It seems like some of us are long time Nets and Devils fans. And oh, how have the Net fans have suffered. And I think the Nets, especially after Petrovic died, were more dysfunctional than the Metrostars. Speaking of Nets fans, last season was sweet. On a tangent, I think the Metros need the same treatment (no, not being owned by Steinbrenner). New management, new coach and one player to really take charge and be a leader. The Metrostars will survive as long as MLS does- despite the best efforts of the coach, management, St. Phil, the NJSEA, etc.
this michael mejido dude thinks soccer is like basketball, football or something like that. in soccer u become a fan and never go back. soccer isnt a sport, its much more than a sport. but its okay, some people have different opinions and just bc i respect it, doesnt mean i dont think its arrogant.
AtNacional, you'd be absolutely wrong in your opinion about soccer vs. other sports. The rules may be different, but in what they can do for the human heart... create inspiration, create passion, create artistry... they are all the same. There are just as big of baseball fans as there are soccer fans, and watch baseball to get the same passion you get by watching soccer. It's sad that somehow aren't able to get the same passion that they do, and can only get it via soccer. It's sad that you miss out in that way. Thinking that you are somehow different than white america because you are hispanic and are able to appreciate a 'more passionate and artistic sport' is the arrogant statement.
In one respect, we do reserve the right to bitch about this team -- they are putting out one of the most godawful products ever to "grace" a football field. Yes, we pay our money, and yes, we are justified in expressing our displeasure at the lack of heart, guts, skill, well, everything really put out on the field by our boys. However, once you make the concious decision to become a Metrostars fan, you're essentially entering a pact to support the team through both success and failure. Hey, if you're a Metros fan, then you should be USED to failure by now. Hope for something better? Sure. But judging on past history, why be surprised with seasons like this? The point is, if you're abandoning the Metro now, don't come back -- f*** off to Washington and support Tottenham West. I wish I could be in New England this weekend...given the chance, I'd go in a heartbeat. Why? Because I'm effing Metro until I die, that's why. This is the first year I've been able to go to the games (though I've been following on TV since the first year), and being a part of the ESC makes supporting this team worth it.
