Just want to say could hear the fans on TV. Great work!!! Just wondering how the OSU drummers helped/hurt? Sounded like they were in unison for some of the chants. Also if anyone has any ideas as to went well, etc. for fans to consider in the future.
Wow. Gale force wind and rain. We were stuck in the upper deck, midfield, this time, surrounded by Mexico fans. It was interesting in a way to get to watch instead of participate. Sort of. Generally, we were really impressed with the supporters' section. The wind and rain were blowing right toward them, so it was somewhat harder than usual to hear them. However, I turned to my spouse at one point and said that the supporters' section looked a lot like the Stadio Olimpico during an AS Roma game we attended--continuous energy, songs, cheers, flags, red. (We couldn't hear the band.) Quibble: Not a fan of flares, and some idiots tossed stuff on the pitch during a corner. Overall, the most miserable weather I've ever seen a game in, and I cannot imagine what it was like to play in that wind, but great result and great USA presence.
Flares are sweet. I thought the supporter's section did awesome. I think Columbus has established itself as the home of USMNT, for many reasons which I guess I can go into later if someone wants me to.
there was a flare right after the 2nd goal, don't know if it was on tv cause it didn't last long but it was right behind me. it burnt my hair, i don't think too bad tho. Should of knew better than to keep jumping and with the strong wind.
I had it just about in my face. I thought the North End was amazing last night. Loud, proud, and almost always in unison, and constantly singing/chanting/playing their instruments. OSU drumline were a fun addition. Don't know about any of the rest of you, but my throat is still a bit sore. In the rush at the end of the game, when the MNT came over to give us props and toss their gear up, I got pushed down 2 rows, and our banner (which never got hung because of a problem with the fabric glue not sticking) got lost underneath the bleachers. We left it. Felt and flannel are cheap enough. It was totally worth missing a day and a half of classes.
The section was awesome. It felt World Cup like at the game last night. Amazing job everyone. And hole shit* the rain and hail before the game ( around 445 ?) was brutal ! What a game. Dos a cero !
Being in SA last night was great, it is tricky to get everyone in on a chant or song, we'll get there, we've made incredible progress and last night was proof of that. Also, when the goals were scored, pandamonium jumping and hugging strangers with smoke and flares and confetti and flags and streamers. Worth every penny, even with that weather and parking.
I had on a waterproof-shell Columbia parka, and I still got rain in places where I wish I hadn't. Down my sleeves, for one. The legs were unprotected and that hail really hurt. However, the parka kept me dry everywhere else and I also hid my camera bag under the coat, too. I looked like I had a horrible growth, but I sacrificed in the name of keeping my electronics safe. My boots were the worst, I had puddles and I was wearing handknit cotton boot socks. Then I discovered my iPod nano was in my coat pocket. Condensation on the inside of the case had me worried, but I think it is none the worse for wear. It played fine for me at university today.
Just watched the game and was really surprised the "you suck asshole" chant made it on the tape three times. I loved doing it, glad we were heard. "And then I got to meet the President....again." -Forrest Gump Kind of like beating Mexico
The section was awesome! Everyone was loud and the songs were great. The horns were fantastic and the majority of the drummers were. I was right in the middle of the section and the only thing that was bad was whoever was drumming up front towards to right of the section. Whoever was doing that drumming couldn't maintain a constant rhythm or beat, but besides that drummer, the section was AMAZING.
They're working on a documentary about the US-Mexico rivalry and were at Claddaghs before the match and at the match itself.
Too bad the documentary crew didn't show up at Ruby Tuesday yesterday for pre-game. Especially to record our march from the pub to the stadium. It was pretty bad-ass. Cars honking and waving, people coming out to watch from their houses, stopping traffic at the one intersection... Shout-outs to Hudson Street Hooligans for hosting and directing our drunk asses to the Stadium when the march was on, and for putting the baseboard down where we had to cross the railroad tracks and hike up that gully... Seriously, the film crew really missed out not getting that.
That cheer, and someone saying "Who cares? You suck!" when the Mexico lineup was announced, made me wonder if I had suddenly been teleported to Yost Arena (U of Michigan), Lawson Arena (Western Michigan), or the Kohl Center and been seated in the student section at a hockey game.
I must have been right next to you, because that security guy popped up out of nowhere to scoop up the flare... I had a 13 hour drive home today to rest the voice...don't think it helped much... (and then there was the adventure a few of us had trying to get back to Hudson Street via the railroad tracks...with a train coming...but I digress)
Those squalls with the hail was tremendous, but I'm glad it didn't shake our spirit. Because of traffic, it took me 3 hours in the rain to finally meet up with my fellow Motor City Supporters who were coming from the Claddagh, but 3 hours in the rain, hail and wind was well worth it. I left DC Tuesday evening at 7pm, drove to my parents' house in Mansfield, Ohio (bout an hour north of Columbus) and arrived at 1:30am. Then, drives to and from Columbus yesterday for the game. I left this morning at 6:30am to drive straight back to DC, straight to work and billed 7 hours at the office. SO. WORTH. IT!
I agree, Ruby Tuesday was a great time for the pre-game. I hope everyone took a "Hand of Justice"! If not, we'll be in Nashville. The march was amazing! I just remember looking back at the railroad tracks as masses and masses of people came over the hill and ran through the mud. What an epic day!
The band was great to have...made it easy to pick out and get in on the chants. The more we grow, the more bass drums we'll need spread across the section.
That hail was horrible. I got lucky though, I was just about to get out of my car when it started (Forgot the tickets inside). Everyone was outside, and boom! It hit. I guess you could say I got good timing.
You have to give credit where it is deserved and AMERICAN OUTLAWS did one hell of a job. Everything from Ruby Tuesday's pre party, American Outlaws taking over pre-party at Claddaghs(crazy!!), march to stadium, and in game atmosphere. Thanks to Hudson Street Hooligans as well! Mad props to everyone who participated. If these events arent in the documentary then they did indeed miss the passion and action!
...sorry about that, Cade. The rain made things a little more difficult than we thought. Jose sends his apology and is paying for it with battle scars..lol! They were sweet, though!
lol it's nothing, I'm more bothered by this gross drunk in front of me who took a piss in the stands during the game and kept trying to force one song while others were trying to pick up on what the group around were singing.
