San Jose fans support our boys in the Persian Gulf. The Quakes are a damn good team, but I gotta say they're topped by the US Navy, Marine Corps, Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard, along with of course our British and Australian brothers: the world's greatest team. Anyone in the Gulf or elsewhere serving our country who's reading this, good luck, come home safe, and thanks for keeping us safe. Alex
thanks Alex, we all appreciate the thoughts and prayers of folks from back home. Small notes like yours keep us working even harder. I am in a classified area but let me tell ya,,,,its a ************ hole. Thank god I get some internet time here and there. I for one hope this does not turn into a thread of opinions of who or what is right or wrong like the one on the metro board did. Keep it real and on subject. Take care, hope to be home in time for see a few Revs games.
Support our boys? Geez Alex! Forget about us Girls in uniform! How's ROTC for you? My injury has been diagnosed finally! But, it's keeping me away from CORTRAMID is Norfolk this summer. I actually met another Midn from U of Illinois tonight!
Re: Re: Support our boys Yeppers, can't forget about those women in uniform, either! But seriously, great thread, and I share Alex's sentiments here. I feel safe some 8,000 miles away from California, but there's a reason why I do, and that's because our freedoms are being protected by the class of the team which Alex has described.
Well said Alex! One of our semi-regular posters on our Quakes board is over there right now working for us. Let's all keep a good thought for him and all the others until they return home.
Thanks to all of you serving our country for the courage and expertise you are exhibiting in protecting our nation's security, as well as liberating an oppressed people. My nephew is among your numbers. His confidence and sense of duty are a great source of pride to our family, as I'm sure all of you are to your family and friends. It is a great comfort to those of us at home knowing the confidence and commitment you each carry as you meet these challenges. You have our hopes and prayers for a successful mission and a safe return, as well as our gratitude!!
I just have to say my closest cousin is in the navy. my step-brother is in the airforce, and my good friend is in the marines. I know they would be thankful for such a respectful thread and on behaf of them I'd like to say thank you. All of this has had an entirely great amount of stress and sadness on me, including a few tears. I miss them dearly and its bitter sweet to know they're, along with the other men and women, are willing to die for our country, the good and the bad citizens, and the ones they do and don't know. That's a true American! My prayers are with them every day and night! God bless them and bring them home safely and soon! I miss them dearly!
May God bless all who serve our country to protect our freedom and safety. But especially those in harms way in Iraq.
God bless our troops. I'm praying that it's all over very soon. Firstshirt and everyone else in the service: Words cannot express the pride and gratitude I have for each and every one of you.
Being the military girl that I am, I'm really starting to worry about our troops. I hope everything goes smoothly and they all get back soon.
Good luck guys and gals. Hurry home safe and sound. I worry for your well-being, whether through enemy fire or equipment malfunction. Be carefull. Whatever I may think of our leaders, I'm behind our brave lads and lassies on the front. Be well, be strong, be good, and come home safe and well. - Mark "We've got to find the humanity in ourselves and others now, in this moment. It's not like we can find our better selves later." - Craig Long
Here's a little something I wrote to express how I feel about the war and b/c I miss my cousin so much. The thought of it almost makes me cry everytime. May God bless all of our soldiers and the United States! "For Our Soldiers" The time has come when you have to go, The day you will return, We do not know. Through the woods and over the seas, Unforgettable sights you have yet to see. Our men of honor continue to march forward. Guns, missels and bombs ready to explode, As these soldiers wait for the signal to go. Across the seas, Your in our hearts, minds and souls; On the homeland...the land of the free. We continue to pray for the one's that we love, And for the brave souls we do not know, To be protected by the man above. Anticipation, fear and confusion is real. For we do not know all that you feel. Pictures and memories are all we have. In our thoughts you are all praised, For it takes a true soldier to risk their life, Only to save the lives of those they do not know. For one can only imagine the danger you face. Though the distance is far, We hold you near to our hearts, And send our embrace.
As a vet, all I can say is hang in there, folks. You'll be home soon. And, don't pay attention to all the cowards over here protesting and vandalizing. The media is making a very small thing (the % who are protesting) look like a very large thing. We're behind you.
tree-hugging, peace-loving, lefty pacifist hippie-wanna-be that i am, OF COURSE i still support the troops!! (male AND female, natch!) rather have you come home alive and safe, than have you go through something like "gulf war syndrome" a few years down the road. be safe. be well. come home. your families miss you. and SHEESH, when alex and i agree on something, it's time to start checkin' if the sky's falling!! ;-P (jus' yankin' yer chain, alex) let's GO QUAKES!!!!
Quite honestly I haven't met a person that doesn't support our "boys" or "girls", pro war or not.......so, that being said, i still don't get why we have threads like this in a soccer forum(sorry, i'm on war-overload), so in a weak attempt to link this to the Quakes, how's about giving the color gaurd a standing "O" as they enter the stadium on Wednesday and any other gameday, afterall, they represent the real stars. Hopefully we will have enough people in attendance that they will notice that we are cheering for them.
I spend some time on the SFSU campus. I've heard people get on the loudspeaker at lunch and scream "*************** the military". I've seen posts on other newsgroups (U.S. based) where Americans are cheering when they hear we've taken lossess. They're out there. And it's tragic. Regardless of your position, you really have to wonder about anyone who cheers when people (especially their own) are harmed. At any rate, an excellent idea with the color guard.
I wish they weren't there in the first place. I totally support the troop's safety while deployed and their safe return. Now don't go reading anything negative into this post. I know by virtue of having 2 twenty-something daughters, one who lives in San Deigo, a dozen or so young people in the middle east right now. One young man, Donald, a very close family friend and someone who I've known since he was just a runny nosed brat. He served in Bosnia and volunteered for this conflict. He knows I disagree with the Bush administration's poilicies as of late and he also knows I think of him every single day. My heart aches for Donald and for each and every soldier out there in harms way and also for the innocents who get caught in the crossfire. Peace.
That's sick. But I'm not surprised. I can remember 1968 like it was almost yesterday. Not everyone in the US Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard voted for George W. Bush; and they may not agree totally with the policy, but they still go out there and do their duty. I wonder if the people in San Francisco (and elsewhere) carrying those signs even voted in the 2000 and 2002 elections. Did you vote?
> i still don't get why we have threads like this in a > soccer forum I don't either, but it doesn't hurt anyone yet so I will let it stay. But I am keeping an eye on it and the second it becomes political it gets its marching orders to the Politics forum.
