    HOT rumor on Big Soccer:

Allocation to Revs to sign JMM, Serna to Burn for Allocation, Burn ??? to ??? for Allocation.

Additional speculation has Vaca going to Metros for Metro's current allocation; only Colorado, D.C. and the Metrostars have allocations, and United is said to have used theirs already to get Ivanov (Bulgarian first-division defender) signed, sealed and delivered.

Sometimes I completely forget that Serna even exists.

    ok, how about:

    Serna to Dallas
    Vaca to DC
    #1 to NY
    Allocation to Revs

    oh, crap, that's only 4.
    ok, i give up

Remember that Hudson supposedly already turned down Vaca for the #1. It does seem like DC should be involved somehow, but they may be asking too much for the Escandarian pick.

Can you get the Rapids in there somewhere?

DCU turned down a chance to have Olsen, Stewart, and Vaca in the same midfield? I'd of taken that in a second.

DC should've drafted Vaca when he came to the league. I'll never understand why they didn't.

Who did we get that year anyway?

Why would Dallas, a team pretty well stocked at the F position give up a promising young MF for Serna of all people?

there are always salary cap issues... i'm not sure about vaca, but stewart and olsen probably make the league max.

Ah bigsoccer. I like how the "Superdraft trade: SPECULATION" thread instantly gets five times as many posts and the "Superdraft trade: OFFICIAL"...

    Five teams you say?

I don't get that Hudson turned down Vaca for #1. I realize Eski looks like he's going to be big, but Vaca is a proven MLS player (and still roster protected?)

Could that be because there hasn't been any official trades yet? And we were told to keep speculation out of that one?

Or because wild, rampant, totally unsubstantiated speculation is just so much more FUN.

What I"m suprised I haven't heard yet are any rumors about just who or what KC is shopping to move up in the draft to get those defenders Gansler wants, and who they're talking to.

I think Crew will definately be moving up, there are very few players on the team that are "untouchable", given the right package why not? I'd love to have Clark or Walsh on this team. I think Stokes or Thomas will be available at 7, so either way it's a can't miss.

Just for fun, what would you give the Burn for pick #4?

    Some background tidbits:

DCU took Mark Lisi and Ryan Nelsen ahead of Vaca. Nelsen panned out okay but...

Olsen makes in the ballpark of 175K. I'd think DC could accomodate Vaca under thier cap still (supposedly Ivanov is pretty cheap- 100K around) but I think Hudson wants more. Remember folks, how bad DC's forwards were last year so to give up Escandarian, who fills a great need Ray probably wants at least a chance to get a forward somewhere down the line.

I wonder if the Crew are more likely to trade for more picks rather than move up.

stopper- you're right about the rampant speculation being fun!

Clearly the metrostars must be searching for either more picks or the #1 pick...any ideas of how they are going to get what they want?? Their allocation must be inplay because I have heard zero talk of them actually using the thing.

Any word on whether on not Ivanov was an allocation or a discovery? That could affect some potential draft day moves.

Ursula already posted about Olsen's salary. According to the Washington Post, Stewart will make about $200,000 this year, so he's under the max too.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A62702-2003Jan15.html

"Stewart signed a two-year contract with Major League Soccer and was allocated to United.... Terms were not disclosed, but it is believed his base salary will be about $200,000 and the deal includes an option year."
