http://3rddegree.matchnight.com/thirdindex.cfm?page=article&keyword=DRAFTPOOL It is very early and I just started putting this together... but if any of you are insane enough to look... here is my SuperDraft Pool page that will run up until the SUperDraft.
I don't presume to tell you how to run your website, but I've got a couple thoughts: 1)ever thought about including some 'guest commentary' on the players from the college soccer buffs like Terp and Sandon? 2)collaborating with Mike Marshall at Revsnet. They also usually do a thorough roundup. 3)asking for volunteers to sort of 'keep tabs' on some of these players as the season progresses. They can email you with the info, and you can update your site. You could break it down by school/club/team (have them dig up stats for every player from that school on the list) or by position. Ex-it would be nice to know the height and weight of some of these guys, or how their respective seasons are progressing. That's going to be tough for one person to do by themselves. If you'd like, I'd volunteer to help out a little on the research end. It'll give me something else to do during another long off-season.
Yes I have asked. I don't think they aer interested in taking the time. But I talk to Sandon and his influence will go into my stuff... he is VERY good. He does excellent work, but he and I don't always agree. And I think having two offers different opinions. We usually link to each other and that kind of thing. He does a top 10 and maybe if he is game I will include his comments on each player he has that is in my list. It's a question of man power. a lot of the info you are talking about is on the school sites and can be found through the link to each player. Height and weight is not a bad idea though. It would be impossible to keep track during the season. Usually I don't even start the list until the NCAA season is done. And the ranking won't come until much later. happy to have your help. Finding links for all of them would be great. Height and weight is a good idea. any conference teams and other honors would be nice finds too.
Does height and weight really flucuate that much during the season? I'm guessing post count could directly reflect in weight gain for most of us posters but, these are collegiate atheletes were talking about.

Re: SuperDraft Pool (UNC) Did 50% of the old U-17s decide to go to UNC together. Geez. Ashe, Corey: MIDFIELD sophomore, 5-6, 140. Tiny but fast. Isn't going to dominate athletically at the pro level. Then again, he isn't suppossed to be that fast and 5-9, 150 isn't particulary scary at the college level, and he still gets the job done. Adu's partner up top with the U-17s. Great motor. Big mouth. DOB 4/10/1986 (from Coppel, TX) Storey, Marcus: FORWARD, senior, 5-8, 150. All ACC team. Consistent All ACC level defender since then. Knack for scoring big goals off set pieces. DOB: 6/25/1982.
I am a complete moron when it comes to NCAA soccer... Doesn't Twellman's little brother play for Stanford? I think he's a senior this year- I saw him in the final in 2002 vs. the hated UCLA Bruins at SMU, but he didn't stand out. Is the kid any good?
Good starting point. Looks like UNC has several players that will come out if not this year, next year for sure. Ashe and Harrington are ready to take the leap and McCarty is right behind them. One I might add is Justin Hughes for UNC, Goalie.. Keeper the Nats ...Let's hope the Coach doesn't treat them like he has one of his players this season for considering P-40 ....
I saw him against SMU this year and he didn't do much to impress me though I think he had a hand in one of he goals. Can't remember if it was an assist or the goal.
Re: SuperDraft Pool UVA's Hunter Freeman Buzz, on UVA's Hunter Freeman. (I PM'ed you the UVA info) I believe I've read on your site that this guy has attended Burn practices before. I think you regarded him as a player with potential, but not a 'can't miss' prospect. He's having a freakishly good season. I think he's leading the nation in assists with over 15! http://virginiasports.collegesports.com/sports/m-soccer/recaps/102304aaa.html Sounds like he's developed a great cross, and could make some MLS team pretty happy.
Re: SuperDraft Pool UVA's Hunter Freeman He is having a break out year. When I first saw him it was for Spurs. He was a one dimensional player.. pure speed and that was it. But he was still in high school, although he had played for the U18. At the time "potential" was the best I could say. I last saw him in Burn camp prior to this Burn season and he had made strides. How much P40 interest he will get I do not know, but he is one to watch if UVa goes places. His MLS career is probably a question of when, not if.
I am not close to the UNC thing, but from the outside it looks bad. If he really is benching Jamie just for wanting to go P40....
Re: SuperDraft Pool (UNC) He's younger than Adu! Seriously, there aren't that many big names in this year's draft besides Watson, Cameron, and Thompson ( I still have my doubts that Yi will be in the draft). Could be a weak year, especially with expansion. On a side note, Buzz, have you thought about separating Div. I and II players on your list? We're holding the Div. II Championships at my school, and I'd love to know who to look out for.
From the list, I would go after Watson(forward) and Ashe. In the 2003 Dallas Cup, Ashe stood out(not only for his hair). If Dallas could get him as well, have ROB take him under his wing and then stick him out on the left. Should be a win-win all around. Eric Vasquez, that names sounds familiar. Did he live in the Dallas area at one point?
Re: SuperDraft Pool (UNC) So far I only have one DII player listed. Each year only a couple might get picked so I don't really go that far into their teams. This year with reserves popping up it would possibly be deeper... then again the draft, at thie time, is stil lonly 6 rounds. But if you know top notch DII guys send me the info.
Watson and Ashe will provide no immediate help, they will be 2-3 year projects at best. I think CC would draft either for their P-40 status and potential but for immeduately help the allocations, trades and picking up an Abe thompson will be what helps save his job.
Ah, you bias U of M person. Without trying to sound too critical, why would Abe Thompson not be a project as oppose to Ashe or Watson? With Ahser and Watson, the thing they have working for them is their international experience.
With Stone retired and Johnson graduated.... the Burn have several open slot on the developmental roster. In addition the Developmental roster will probably expand for reserve teams. Right now only Goodson and Nunez are p40 and developmental in 05. Wagenfuhr and Maurin COULD be but don't have to be. But put that all together and P40s are important this time around since there will rooom for at least 4 developmental players if not more. There has been talk more P40s may get signed this year. And I don't think FC Dallas will look just for P40s, but I bet FCD target at least three if they can. As for Watson, Ashe and Thompson.... I like all three. Clarke had commented that Thompson needed to have an injury free sr season as he had been a bit injury prone, but he has done that and is having a great year. Thompson is a big, strong, and fast forward who has what I call "a nose for goal." Clarke also commented a week ago that Thompson Sr year was putting him near the top. It's possible he might not make it to the 4th pick, but it's still too early to say as the expansion draft could change everything. Watson is a small scrappy forward with good pace who likes to annoy defenders with his game (and his mouth). I believe Clarke likes him as he would not have kept him around all summer. Between these two I think Thompson would be a better forward for Eddie to play off of. But since it looks like one allocaiton is going to a forward for Eddie to play off, whoever FC Dallas drafts (if it's a forward like I want them to do) is really Eddie repalcement sometime in 06. (given the small chance EJ re-signes here) Ashe is a player I like but is less of a lock. he would not be a first rounder I don't think. But I have had a soccer crush on him since Dallas Cup. he's a left side mid/def with sick pace.
The team could use a Hunter Freeman and or a Drew Moor in the back, and a new understudy for the D-mid position.
