Operation Certain Death Written by Damien Lewis...

On the back of the book it reads..

"No other army in the world could have done what the British Army did in Sierra Leone in 1999 ---in terms of speed, decisiveness, ingenuity, and above, all, willingness to put the lives of its own men at risk in the face of overwhelming odds.

Eleven British soldiers were held hostage by a group of murderous rebels. Britain's best were sent to rescue them and annihilate the rebel forces.

Officially called Operation Barras, but known to the men on the ground as Operation Certain Death, it was a joint operation between the Paras, the SBS, the Navy and the RAF, but spearheaded by the SAS. Because of the traditional secrecy surrounding special forces operations, the authorities have suppressed this story, but it is one the men themselves want told. So here it is in their own words.

It is the single most daring Special Forces rescue mission since World War Two."

And i can tell you its a compelling, gut wrenching and very very open account of an amazing period of the last few years....each page brings home to you the emormity of the problems that surround countries in Africa that have been over run by over zealous criminals....its truly an amazing story.

The book is published by Century, The Random House Group Limited, 20 Vauxhall Bridge Road, London, SW1V 2SA
