Great result for Thun. Basel can not buy a win in Thun recently. I thought that they could have with all the departures from Thun, but I guess not.

    Here are the other results:

    FT Aarau 1 - 4 St. Gallen
    FT Schaffhausen 1 - 1 Neuchatel Xamax

Good result for both FCSG and Xamax.

    Absolutely gutted.

i had no such luck - and it made painful viewing. One of the goalkeepers had an utterly horrendous match, and for once, it wasn't Taini...

Would have been interested to see the Eduardo and Chibab red cards but the footage cut out three quarters of the way through and I couldn't get it back.

Can't afford Stepanovs on the bench. It's the first time since 1980 that we conceded 4 goals against the Schlachhöfler. I'm still bitter. Makes me want to cry, losing against this disgusting wannabe club.

Here is the attendence report from week 2:
    Aarau - FCSG: 4900
    FCS - Xamax: 2700
    Thun - Basel: 8000
    Yverdon - YB: 5450
    FCZ - GCZ: 18400

Not too bad numbers. The only really bad one in Schaffhausen. It shold be interesting to see how the numbers work out over the next few weeks.

The SL might have its first coaching casulity soon:
According to FC Aarau President Michael Hunziker " Six points are necessary in the next three matches (2 at home against NE Xamax and Yverdon). If not, Andy Egli will be let go..."

I assume this is a derogatory term! :D

Doubtless the FCZ fans think they are now Zurich's No 1 because of a couple of derby wins and a cup final victory. But we are still their Daddy!

18,000-plus is a very good crowd. How many GC were there?

Dan was at the game in the away end, he 'guesstimates' around 4,000 GC fans.
Godfather 1886: I too would appreciate the English translation of 'schlachofler' if possible please!!

It's not a real German word actually.

But there is a slaughterhouse (Schlachthof) beside the Letzigrund. And it's stinking like the FCZ supporters (Schlachthöfler).

Well gentlemen, I will depart tonight for a nearly three week vacation to Switzerland & Germany. I doubt I will have much time (if any) to get on BS, so I won't be able to post the league highlights:

You can find them here: http://www2.sfdrs.ch/sport

Sport Aktuell (week days & Saturday) / Sport Panorama (Sunday)

    This weeks schedule:
    July 30
    18:30 Neuchatel Xamax ? - ? Yverdon
    19:30 Basel ? - ? Zurich
    19:30 Grasshoppers ? - ? Schaffhausen
    19:30 St. Gallen ? - ? Thun
    19:30 Young Boys Bern ? - ? Aarau

The first Lac Neuchatel Derby of the season kicks off. Both teams need a win, Xamax probatly will get one.

Basel - FCZ should be an intereisting one along with FCZ - Thun.

    FT Neuchatel Xamax 4 - 0 Yverdon
    FT Basel 2 - 1 Zurich
    FT Grasshoppers 1 - 1 Schaffhausen
    FT St. Gallen 5 - 1 Thun

    The YB match was postponed.

Wow, Yverdon is looking bad, even FCS got a point vs GCZ. FCSG with the big win over Thun, while the Basel FCZ match seems to have been an exciting one.

    The weekends attendence without YB.

    Xamax - YS: 4200
Not too bad for Xamax vs YS in La Chaux de Fonds when they play at YS, the number might be more because IIRC Yverdon is closer to Neuchatel than La Chaux

    FC Basel - FCZ: 25939
Nice crowd for what seems to have been a good match.

    GCZ - FCS: 4800
GCZ's two home matches have been against two of the worst teams in the league, one reason for the low attendence. They have not had to travel yet. Lets hope that as the stronger teams arrive, the attendence will increase.

    FCSG - Thun: 9000
Good crowd that saw FCSG just destroy Thun 5-1. Two good crowds for FCSG this season.

    Here are the standings:

    1. St. Gallen 3 6
    2. Young Boys 2 6
    3. Zürich 3 6
    4. Thun 3 6
    5. Basel 3 6
    6. NE Xamax 3 4
    7. Grasshopper 3 4
    8. Schaffhausen 3 2
    9. Aarau 2 0
    10. Yverdon 3 0

There are quite a few suprises here. Five teams have 6 points, with YB having a match in hand.

And we've struggled against both! The results will need to improve if the fans are to come back, this looks like 04/05 all over again right now...

I know that there was an accident with one of the performers for the opening festivities. Something that they were in a ballon that went astray and landed on a car hurting the performer. Why that would stop a match, I do not know.

Chapuisat were chosen 'Best YB player of all time'!! Can't say I'm an expert on past YB players but to me that sounds crazy! He played there 3 years (100games/53 goals) and what did they achieve in that time? Nothing!

There was something like a 3 days festival for the new Wankdorf. Including matches against Stuttgart and Udinese. Udinese won the tournament. Nobody really liked it, but that's actually the reason why they postponed the match against Aarau. At least YB has a proper opponent for their first championship match in Wankdorf now. :D

    Yes, that's crazy and ridiculous.
